Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmm... sounds theoretically simple, but harder in practice.

It's harder in practice than typing it of course :) But it's not that hard. I've taught quite a few people with no martial arts background how to do what I'm describing; even klutzy people generally pick up the basics pretty quick, though there's an occasional person who gets a learning block on a certain move, in which case they just need extra help with that particular thing. A big part of the learning process is getting over the belief that you can't do it, which is why I start with simple stuff like the wrist grab counter: just about anybody can learn that quickly with a few reps, because it doesn't involve any coordination you don't already have from other activities, it's just a new application of something your body already knows how to do.

Got the latest and cleared out my mailbox again. Interesting... what were they on?

My brother compiled them from a bunch of different websites. Since you just cleaned out your inbox and you're going to bed soon, I'll wait 'til tomorrow to send you anything else.

Which CD/chapter is "The Dumbest Bet in History" on? :)

I preferred "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge". Can't remember who used that one...

Somebody that wrote show tunes?

I would agree that there are many measures of personal defense that are useful. All of them require many hours of training to become truly useful.

There is a truism though, that a firearm puts a potential victim on a stronger footing than a stronger attacker, training notwithstanding.

As it was said: "God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal."

I couldn't find this picture today. Here's a horse of a different color for your other thread. I believe it's best that I don't visit.

Er, that would be three-quarters through Season 4 of Ranma. Somewhere around Episode, oh, 75.

Good night! How far did you get with Kenshin, just the first episode?

But then you have to be able to draw and aim it in time, which depends on a lot of stuff.

I dunno... I don't have all that much training, and yet I can draw and drop six steel targets at 25 yards in about four seconds. What really bugs me is that there is guy in the club that can do it in 2.5 seconds. Damn. Just Damn.

You and OT with her Mr. Ed contribution!

That thread is at over a hundred posts already, with just about five participants... See how much I really wanted to talk about horses all those other times I posted pics here?

Why? Was there a problem?

I guess I'll have to wait to get to that one--LOL!

Yeah, I just watched the first episode, been trying to keep up with the threads/email since then :) Which is fine--I'm savoring it so it lasts :) Thanks, and have a good night!--looking forward to discussing some more episodes later :)

Look, you've got 45 or so episodes of Kenshin, 40 episodes of Ranma, 26 Escaflowne and 24 Scrapped Princess. And that's this batch. You don't need to worry about savoring.

Really good night.

Dangerous work without a lot of protection on a boat like that. Lot of folks forget about the Coast Guard in much of the country, but not around here.
