President Bush is not like Eishenhower, Kennedy, Johnson or Nixon.

I've about had it with people comparing the War on Terror with Viet Nam.
President Bush is not like the 4 Presidents that "managed" the Viet Nam war.
He's not like Eishenhower who 1st put American service men in Viet Nam in 1955
and who wouldn't let them fire their weapons.
The 1st US death was on June 08, 1956
He's not like Kennedy who wanted to quit Viet Nam.
He's not like Johnson who wanted to quit Viet Nam also.
He's not like Nixon, who had the silent majority behind him, and instead caved into the peace niks minority.

Thanks for posting - I will explore that site.
Viet Nam was a battle in the Cold War. My understanding is that the Soviets and/or Chinese were supplying the enemy, and that the US feared that a certain level of "escalation" would only result in a wider conflict. They may have been right, or maybe our politicians just "blinked." Also, people forget that there was a cease fire and partition in January of 1973, but that there was no enforcement mechanism like in Korea or the Balkans. It took over two years for Saigon to fall. And thousands, maybe a million or more, Vietnamese, who stayed in the country for over 12 years of combat and burning of their villages, became "boat people" and ran for their lives just after the Viet Cong declared "peace." That tells you a lot right there.
Whatever people think about the Cold War, it's over. France and Germany oppose us in part just for the sake of opposing us and acting as a "counterweight," but they won't actively support a guerrilla war against us. (They won't, will they?) And yes, Bush and the American people have learned the lesson of Viet Nam - if it's worth fighting, it's worth fighting to win. How many defeats and indignities has the US suffered in the last quarter-century because enemies thought they could challenge and attack us without real consequences? We can't let that happen again. God help the Spanish people - they are only just learning this now.
And many thanks, always, to all our veterans.

Don't forget that f%ckup Truman. Sucking up to the French. Renigging on Roosevelt's promise and letting them take their colonies back in Indochina.
Honestly, between his incompetence there and in Korea I can't figure how he's got such a great rep.

B.G. Burkett: Navy Commanders to Cast Doubt on Kerry's War Record
Several Navy officers who supervised Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry when he commanded a swift boat in Vietnam are preparing to publicly question his war record - including the circumstances under which he was awarded three Purple Hearts - a noted Vietnam War historian revealed on Sunday.
Burkett, whose 1999 book, "Stolen Valor," is considered to be the definitive history of of falsified Vietnam War claims, told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg that Kerry's former commanders would allege that the top Democrat's Purple Hearts were awarded for "self-reported injuries that were virtually nonexistent."
"He never got a day of treatment, he never spent a day in a medical facility," Burkett said. "These were all self-reported wounds, which you're going to hear from some swift boat guys in the future as to the nature of those wounds."
Burkett said he had personally spoken to the Navy commanders who were preparing to go public about Kerry's decorations.
"You're going to get quite a showing [of those speaking out]," Burkett told Malzberg. "I don't know [the number] yet. They're trying to get it to be unanimous of every swift boat guy who ever served."
As to the timetable for the upcoming revelations, Burkett said that Kerry's superior officers "were still discussing that."
"You've got some major rallys being planned against John Kerry by Vietnam veterans on the mall, at the convention - this type of thing," he said. "And we're going to make America aware of John Kerry's military record."

Amen! I was not there - too young as I graduated from HS and enlisted in 76 - but our service members who served were dishonorably treated, especially by those who were there and came back to protest. The best and brightest were in Nam, not dicking the dog here in the states!

Oh I suspect that if Burkett produces the commanders to substantiate his claims then the press conference will draw the major media networks!

12 Feb 55 - President Eisenhower's administration sends 1st 350 U.S. advisers to South Vietnam to train the South Vietnamese Army
08 Jun 56 - 1st American advisor was killed
5 Sep 56 - President Eisenhower tells a news conference that the French are "involved in a hopelessly losing war in Indochina"
Yet he refused to let our service people fire their weapons.

They should show it EVERYDAY to remind America that a person
who commited treason is running for President.
And NOT giving him free air time.
