As it turns out, I never was actually seeing Marcia Brady. My doctors tell me that I'll be ready for release any time now. The medication seems to be working.

They can be :) Girls aren't as rough at first because they tend to hold back for fear of hurting the other person, but once they get used to it a lot of pent-up aggression can come out.

Regarding injuries, you can get injured in sparring, but it's not particularly more dangerous than other high-impact sports, IMO, unless you're going full-contact in which case it has the same risks as boxing. The most common things I've seen happen is someone forgets to wear a cup and gets kicked in the groin, or two people clash their shins (something that happens more to beginners until you learn to avoid it), or someone doesn't pull their punch enough and the other person gets a bloody nose. But for the most part sparring rules are designed to prevent injury and are pretty successful at that (which, unfortunately, has the effect of making the combat simulation somewhat unrealistic and can be detrimental for the self-defense side of the training). I've actually gotten injured more often in training than in sparring--forgetting to stretch or trying to kick too hard without warming up enough or something like that.

When I first went to work in design (as opposed to regular detail drafter) within 2 months my supervisor quit and a stereotypical feminazi-career woman was hired as our new supervisor. She tried for 2 or 3 years to get me fired because I wouldn't go in for all her feminist crap. Eventually she had a lateral move into something else which cleared the way for a decent supersisor for us. Long about 3 years after that... she ended up getting stuck on a team with me as project manager. BWAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I never had any trouble with her after that. She has always treated me with respect since then. But, I didn't try for any retribution or anything. Just expected her to do her work on the projects that I led.

She called me about 4 years ago. Tracked me to the job I had before this one. Wanted to know if she could use me as a reference on her resume. She's still stuck in that same job she moved laterally to in '92, while I've been written up in national trade magazines twice for designs I worked on and got awarded first runner up for Texas woman of the year in technology. I have felt vindicated... without doing anything. She knows who the best designer is. :-)

I worried about Jill at competitions at first because she was SO dadgummed little! I mean she was half the weight of most of the boys she competed with. But, she wasn't afraid to hit or kick. She was so wirey and quick that she did pretty well. It seemed like she could kick higher than her legs outta be able to extend! Was entertaining. hehehe

LOL! Good for her :) Sometimes also at that age some girls are bigger than the boys their age and actually have a size advantage!

My friends Bob and Kay's 6 year old is in Karate.... and they went for their first semi-competition/demonstration last week... and she said it was funny watching... the boys would go at it, and Kay was nervous always that Jessie would get hurt.... but then her turn came and it was pitiful watching these two six year old girls, neither of which really wanted to hit the other.... Bob (picture Southern sherrif) yelling "Come on Jessie!" Hit her!"

I've seen that--LOL! Boys that age tend to be like that, too, though the more aggressive ones get really competitive/aggressive and will wipe up the floor with the milder-mannered ones.

Jill has usually been tall for her age. But, she makes me look like a fleshed out woman. I mean, can you say *string bean?* Back then she was competing with boys older than her too. I don't think she passed 100 pounds until she got pregnant with her first child. She is taller than me. I am 5'9".

You didn't just learn that tonight did you?

Funny thing was, I never tried to be competitive in that job. The projects I worked on that were so high profile were dumped in my lap when I didn't necesarily want them. I got the first one because no one else wanted it and I figured I might as well volunteer for it because I'd been getting all the crap jobs from that woman anyway. Turned into a high profile thing - but she had no idea it would happen that way. That was the project for which I was nominated by outside parties for the state award.

The second high profile project came about 5 years later and I fought tooth and nail NOT to be put on that one because it took me away from home way too much. It is the project which finally provoked me into quitting that company. They didn't see a problem with telling me I should spend every other week out of town. Myranda was 13 when I started that project. There were other people without children who were totally qualified, had no kids to worry about and WANTED the project. I worked on it for a while... but was always having to leave Myranda with a babysitter for a week at a time. It was just wrong. So, I quit.
