The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Usually it's verbal and mental rather than physical, though. ;-)

Yikes...I don't envy you that job! I'm happy now back bein' the only girl, or just about.

You definitely will get there, as long as you don't give up. Clocking things on fitday should help. I'm not very responsible about eating balanced, but when I'm on protein diet, I know there are things I can't eat so I just ignore them.

You have to not look at what you're doing as dieting, but as being healthy, then even if the weight loss is really slow (it always is... sigh) you shouldn't feel too bad. I mean, you're running, aren't you?

Or maybe a D-9? The 2004 Caterpillar Rachel Corrie Edition, perhaps? (sorta like the Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Explorer, only different).

Heh, I read 'D-28' and thought they were talking about role playing games... the multi-sided dice are called after the number of faces and I think there may be a D-28. Or maybe D-24...

My granddad had one of those when I was growing up. Another of the many things us kids like to "ride" on while he worked! Ahhh... that was fun. :-)

Can I have a 1940 D-18 instead?

May not look like much, but I bet it sounds REALLY sweet. I've only gotten to play one of these in my time...it was feather-light, LOUD, and sounded sweet as maple syrup.

Yeah, yeah, there's that. Even if I haven't lost any weight, I'm in better shape from a muscular and aerobic standpoint. Don't get winded so easily.

Ummmm... FWIW - the police academy here teaches trainees to stay out of catfights because 2 wimmin fighting without weapons are more dangerous and unpredictable than 2 men fighting.

We are told as instructors here that if you try to break up fights between male students 2 instructors should work together, one getting in front of one male the other instructor getting in front of the other male. That seems to stop them because they want to attack the other guy not the people in the middle. However, we are told to call 911 for wimmin fighting.

Back in those days... the boss was a lady that I just loved to death. She was awesome. It was all the others in the department that were the problem. One in particular. Dang... she was mean. Just mean. She hated me thoroughly for reasons that I never did and still don't understand.

She was known around the company as "the Ice Queen". She took over the department while our boss went on a leave of absence for about six months, only a month or two after I was hired. She tried unsuccessfully to have me fired a couple of times, and then wrote (as I understand it) a *scalding* review of me when our boss got back later that year.

When the boss got back she brought me in to her office to talk about this review. She asked me if I'd seen it. I said that I'd gotten a copy of it in an envelope, but had never opened it or read it.

Don't you want to read it? she asked?

No... I said... I have already supposed that it is negative, as there is something about me that seems to bother her very much. I have decided, though, not to read it because I'm afraid that my response to it would harm my career more than her opinion ever could.

About a year or so later, the Ice Queen was fired for other reasons. Never did see that review.

Yeah, sometimes it's easier to do the kicks than remember the names of them :) Trying to describe without pictures is hard--wish I had some webspace that wouldn't crash--but basically, there are two types of kicking motions that will get that muscle group. The standing versions are called side kicks and roundhouse kicks, and look like this while done when standing:

Side kick (lifts straight up and extends straight out):

Roundhouse kick (comes around rather than straight):

Doing similar motions while on your hands and knees or on your back will have a similar effect.

Ugh, I sound like my mother - but getting in shape is about more than just losing weight.

Do your clothes fit any better? Perhaps you've been turning fat to muscle!

Hmm, sister just called from school. Car won't go. That's not good... Dad's going to check it out but that's the only car she can drive and nobody can chauffer her. Plus we'll have to take three cars everywhere if the Expedition goes to the shop.

Well, in light of this topic of conversation going on tonight, I feel obligated to ask you if you'd like me to kick her ass for ya. hehehe

I don't know that they do, really!

But maybe a little.

In any case, I'm done whining for tonight. I'm tired and sore...gonna go read for awhile and then sleep.

But the sore means I'm getting stronger, and that's a nice feeling.

Hope the car situation works out!

hehhehe... not needed anymore. She got hers. I outlasted her. I heard from the old CEO some years later that when the boss left, she left specific instructions with the CEO that the ice queen was not authorized to fire me.

Love that woman. :-)

I don't know if she has any idea how far I've come in this company since then, because it would gnaw at her like leprosy. Hope so. :-)
