The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Bond may be cliche; but as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it :)

Speaking of Bond, here are my favorite Bond films:

Dr. No

Goldfinger

Thunderball

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Live and Let Die

The Man with the Golden Gun (Saruman as villain! :)

For Your Eyes Only

A View to a Kill

License to Kill

Die Another Day

Incidentally, on the what-to-watch-tonight topic, I'm watching King of the Hill right now.

We were working Shelley in obedience and she was getting ready to go to her first show, when I decided to switch her to agility. She's much better suited for this game - she's restless, small, light, and fast. Never in her life would she be able to do a 5 minute down stay out of my sight. (She's very good though about guarding my pocketbook in the Home Depot while I load lumber.)

Heh...I picked up a couple of used Tae-bo videos...they were cheap and I figgered what the heck...could at least look. I've always felt kinda leery of exercise videos, I guess because they're the sort of thing that's on daytime TV with the soaps and other shows of...well, dubious quality. Just tried out one workout. Aerobically I don't think it compares to running, but my stomach muscles feel like jelly and my legs are shaking, so it musta done SOMETHING. Ouch!

It's different aerobically than running--your body has different aerobic systems for different types of activities (AEROBIC /ANAEROBIC TRAINING METHODS). On the muscular side, It will work different muscle groups than running. Besides getting different leg muscles, the knee raises and kicks are equivalent to some of the sit-up variations I mentioned in one of my earlier posts.

BTW, those videos are also good for the entertainment value of making fun of Billy Blanks--my sister-in-law watches those and does a hilarious impression of him :)

Well, First Blood just came on, so we will make do with that for now.

Haven't seen that in a while--that was a good one :)

Agility is a better sport.... a lot more fun than obedience... I wouldn't compete in obedience again, but it was fun to do once.

Gidget could have been competive in agility I think... but the year that would have been her year to compete, I bought Bay and spent every waking minute fencing all summer. Never got back into it... now she is too old, fat, and lazy!

Shell is three - and shows no signs of slowing down although her attention span is better -- hey, she made it all the way through the Snooker course without a single mistake!

Snooker is crazy, they scatter obstacles around the ring. You have to take any red jump, then any black obstacle, then a different red jump, then any black obstacle, then a third red jump, then any black obstacle, then six black obstacles in numerical order. Some are multiples (in this trial there was a 4A and 4B, then a 6A and 6B.) She's thickened up a little bit - she hasn't been to the vet lately but from her looks I think she's gone up from the 43 pounds at her last visit to about 45 - but it is mostly a broadening of the chest and muscling up. She keeps moving too much to get fat!

She's a little thing at 45! Logan always weighed 80-85.

Gidget right now is 6 or 7 I think... (I would worry about myself as a parent...). and 70 pounds on a 60 pound frame.

The agility event I like also is the one where you stand in a ring and can't leave it, and you remotely send the dog over the most obstacles in an amount of time..... with the highest-scoring obstacles the furthest away... don't remember what that one is called.

I'm not overly fond of apples. But, I love pears. My pear trees were in bloom when I was back home for spring break. If it rains enough this year I'll have a nice crop of 'em come September. I use those in all kinds of recipes that generally call for apples - but most of 'em I make into Pear Butter. MMMmmm...

That would work. Bet you'd like it! :-)

That is, if you like pears.

Yeah, I like pears. But I'd have to get used to a crisp that wasn't tart.

Maybe pear cobbler would be better?

Heh...and more importantly, if that IS the case, does he have brothers? ;-)

Yup! Willingness to do household chores, and the being able to do so without losing coolness, is a good sign, wouldn't you say?

Not saying that's high on the list of things I'm looking for, though. Might be somewhere on page 217. Um, perhaps I ought to rethink some of my ideals...

Hey, the tae-bo sounds great! Anyway, anything you do is more than what you were doing before, right, so it's good. Keep it up, we'll get there... August is still a ways off...

I got one pear tree with tart pears and one with sweet ones. You can take your choice. I don't care for the cobblers they make though. They're canning pears and don't get soft enough for cobblers till they're too ripe.
