The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Good Morning All; beautiful morning here in America's heartland, sunny and 40's and on its way up to 60 (perhaps)
Gypsy girl got to see the northern part of our 'shire' this morning. We hadn't been up there ourselves for a bit, more houses being renovated, and the early garden flowers coming into their own. Bradford and Chanticlair pears in full bloom. Fiddlehead ferns starting to emerge, looks like most of the ones we transplanted last fall have made it.
Time to go see about a new wheel barrow, duck tape, bailing wire and bungee cord only do so much for so long. Maybe a planter?
Hair; the flower boat is great, those look like the rowboats my dad and I would rent to go fishing. Eventually we got a 5 hp outboard, man, that was livin' large. Glad the boat was rescued by you and Ramius and put to good use. Looks like Giget was having fun, swimming and fetching. Ramius good job on the graveling.
Rosie; foot of snow ?!!? next week, sheesh. I like my winter, but only in months like December/January, then I'm ready for spring. :-)
Overtaxed; is Miss Kitty enjoying the sun? Ours are snoring away the morning in their separate windows.
SY'allL :-)

They also shampooed the rugs for spring cleaning, and the place smells like warm, wet dog. Oh dear. Is that the whole hospital? Or just your office area?
I can't say I'd agree with you about the icebox in the summer. Air conditioning is way overused IMHO. LOL
But, then, that's my bizarre Texas self. I'm very aware that few folks anywhere would agree with me on that. :-)

Morning, Osage. Any luck kickin' tires?
I got word of something I gotta go look at tomorrow. My mechanic didn't even know I was lookin' for a new vehicle but he called me yesterday tellin' me about a truck he found for sale that he thought had my name all over it. :-)
I forget the year model, something in the 90's. But, it's a Z-71 Extended Cab with a hot rod engine in it. :-D Johnny's driven it and said it's a good strong, well-built, dependable motor. Only thing - it is an automatic. But, for the hot rod he says it is, I might could sacrifice! :-)
I can't look at it till tomorrow but I'm gonna check it out. :-)

Gotta wonder who's body is in the planter boat huh? Now we know where Hair and Ramius hide the bodies! :-)
Good morning. Haven't seen ya in a while. Everything okay down yonder?

Good morning... have been workin' long hours, and still not feeling 100%, but otherwise everything is goin' along ok!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Sorry to hear you're still not feelin' 100%. Is it the classic Hill Country cedar fever? Good news I think on the work though. More work means more chance you and Rose will get to come to Wedding Moot! :-)
It's a bit overcast and chilly here this morning. Yesterday was sunny and warm. *sigh* Of course, that definition of chilly is for a Texas gal - not the yooper. LOL

Engine House #9 -- creators and purveyors of the very finest cask-conditioned brews in the known universe -- brewed right on site. Decent, if somewhat standard, pub food, but the greatest brews to be found anywhere in a pretty neat environment (old brick 19th-century firehouse, with firehouse door, old brass fire-nozzles, old-style "parachutes" to catch people jumping from buildings, memorials to their firehouse Dalmatians -- all the trappings. Semi-quiet, soulful atmosphere with brews beyond compare. Kimberly and Ruthy are headin' there with us -- we'll take you there too.

I meant that I thought maybe we could invite Chad! There's no lack of room (well it gets pretty tight on friday nights, but now the courtyards are open and the weather is good)...or brew. Load 'em up and haul 'em in.
To: Wneighbor
Some of it is allergies, but something I ate earlier in the week also gave me some upset. Getting better though.
Yes, if I can get another contract like the one I'm working on now, I think Wedding Moot becomes a distinct possibility, depending on whether Rose can get the time off.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
I will let Chad know when the time gets closer. He can meet us there if he's free. That would be fun! :-)

If ya'll can make it to wedding moot will you be flying in or driving in? Or have you thought that far ahead?
If flying it would be very cool if you could get on the flight with Ruthy and I, although we are going a day early. If driving, you know you've got a spot to stop for the night in WF. At no cost! And it would come with a good meal! :-)

Bear; EXCELLENT picture; man, you sure can find 'em. :-)
Wneighbor; I know a few fellas with Z Chevy PU, I believe they are 4WD units. Kinda like me, gotta expand the horizon, :-) I like the 4 speed automatics, the overdrive is quite nice and the mileage, even with the 350 in my 95 PU, is fairly respectable. In 4th the ol' rpms really drop off.
To: Wneighbor
Oh dear. Is that the whole hospital? Or just your office area? The building I work out of is strictly offices, and the print shop. But the help desk covers five major hospitals and several dozen smaller sites, over five telephone area codes.
Some people do think we work somewhere in their hospital. One woman demanded I come out to her unit to clear a jam out of a printer. She didn't stop demanding, even when I told her I was 30 miles away, and the only person there to answer calls for the whole hospital system on midnights.
So I called my boss at 3 AM, set up a three-way conference call, and things were finally spelled out clearly enough for even a pointy-haired manager to understand.

Dave's gonna definitely want to join our crew...we should probably plan for the Friday.
To: osagebowman
Well, everybody knows how I like performance. I think I might like this little Z. At any rate, it sounds like it's worth looking into. :-)
And, it would keep me in a pickup so I won't have to think about trailers for emergencies.

To: Wneighbor
will you be flying in or driving in?That is the question!
We would both be more comfortable driving... but it's a 3-day drive each way, meaning that even if we only stayed for the weekend, Rose would have to take at least a week off from work.
Flying is more convenient time-wise, but neither one of us likes to fly any more. Also, I suspect it will be more expensive to fly.
So far we haven't made a decision either way, since it seemed unlikely (until recently) that we would have the money to do either one. But if our finances continue to improve, we'll have to decide!
