The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm merely a dabbler in anime. But this Ruruoni Kenshin is absolutely superb.

Others I've seen and liked: Vision of Escaflowne (my favorite, at least for a little longer). Vampire Princess Miyu. Ranma 1/2 - it's really, really weird. Um. The title character takes 'transgendered' to a whole new level. Only it's funny. Scrapped Princess (that one's not really available over here, I think). Lost Universe.

I understand Slayers is good. Um... I have a friend who likes Cowboy Bebop but it's a little dark for me. Never seen Fushuugi Yuugi but enough people talk about it. Neon Genesis Evangelion you either love or hate or just don't get. I've never seen it.

Also the movies... Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, Grave of the Fireflie, Mononoke Hime are the limit of what I've seen, but there's lots of others. Um, Blockbuster often has anime movies or even the first few disks of an anime if you want to look at it.

He'll be back after Easter. He gave us up for Lent.

So what are we? Fattening food?

I admire Corin's dedication, but I need the Hobbit Hole to maintain my sanity, such as it is. I've been busting my butt for the troops even harder for Lent, as my bit of charity. Some results of that after I upload some new photos.

Not surprisingly to me, some of the comments didn't even make sense.

-enjoyed ha ha ha

don't know how to take that one.

-goes over everything in class so I must listen

duh, wonder how that one got that clue? in other classes listening isn't necesary? i don't know. LOL

-Ms. B. has been a wounded instructor.

uh? what?

And then one comment just says

Anyway, it's entertaining.

It's like reading those 'funny explanations of how the accident happened' lists.

"The deer kept running back and forth across the road, and I had to swerve several times before I finally hit it."

Exactly! Of course, I have shared the funny ones. Most are normal. complimentary even. But, I like the goofy ones. :-)

Thanks! I can get Cowboy Bebop on Carton Network. Also this:

Toonami

Unfortunately Cartoon Network doesn't seem to show a lot of the other stuff you mention, though apparently at one point they were supposed to show Escaflowne:

Escaflowne On Toonami

Toonami will premier Escaflowne sometime this year. It's still too early to know if the Cartoon Network will be the heavily edited American Fox Television version or the less edited Canadian version broadcast on YTV. Apparently the Cartoon Network is also considering broadcast an edited version of Cowboy Bebop.

I guess this is what happened:

Get back good anime, good anime (12/03)

>Who else thinks that toonami should put back some of the good anime like Gundam wing,Gundam 0080,Outlaw star,Tenchi,Ronin warriors, some like that there are more if you want to talk about that just send me a message or email me at iam_brownsowhat@hotmail.com

Cartoon Network doesn't have the rights to those shows anymore. That's why they're not on.

I'm also seeing Fox had a kids' version of Escaflowne on once and cancelled it:

Escaflowne on FOX/YTV

Escaflowne's too weird for American tv. Cartoon Network shows one episode of Kenshin on Saturday nights at 10 or 11.

Unfortunately, anime on tv is dubbed, and dubbing is evil evil evil. Subtitles are the way to go. You sort of pick up more of the flavor that way. Especially with the honorifics - 'san' versus 'Mr' - they don't feel the same.

Ok, I have figured out why I like Rurouni Kenshin so much. The death count is low because they're not fighting to kill people, in fact that's Kenshin's whole point, he doesn't kill people any more. So - it's subtle and I don't know quite what I mean here - the swordfighting and such becomes about life rather than death. 'The sword that protects people' - it sounds really corny but it's actually pretty neat.

Or maybe that's the cough syrup talking.

I'll keep an eye out for the Saturday night Kenshin.

I prefer subtitles for foreign films, too. Japanese dubbing cracks me up, though :) I also like when they splice stuff into Japanese films to try to make it more appealing to the US market. When they released the original Godzilla in the US, they added scenes with Raymond Burr playing a reporter named "Steve Martin" (LOL!) so there would be an American character. It's hilarious because in Burr's scenes, all the Japanese characters are played by a small group of actors who play different characters in different scenes (like we're not supposed to notice!). My favorite character is a Japanese scientist who misprounces the word "phenomenon" several times as "phenomemom" and, when asked how Godzilla could still be alive after millions of years, explains, "Well, it is possible, due to the curvature of the Earth's surface. . ."--ROFLMBO!
