You've never, as a young fool, poured water into a pan of hot grease?

I have...

I would think it would pop and spit.... but fire?

Pop and spit is an understatement. I was lucky not to lose skin.

And I'd think a lot of it would end up all over the stove and on the burner.

But I'd be skeered to test the theory!

Do you get asked, "Do you still work here?" at times? Looks like you've packed all your toys and moved on.

***The recipe says 1 cup water and 1/2 cup shortening in small saucepan over high heat - boil for 5 minutes! .....

Uhhhh....water and shortening don't mix. Never heard of anyone trying to boil a shortening mixture before. :)

It could ignite if the grease spatter hit open flame- gas stove comes to mind- or a hot electric element.

Ahh.... well, I have never lived with gas appliances... only 'lectric.

It's ~not~ that I am just completely unfamiliar with the kitchen!

I had a gas stove in an apartment once, but my experience with grease fires comes from woodburning stoves (there was a crazy person involved- and it wasn't me :P ).

Totally non-grease related...but I really like my gas stovetop! It's sooo much easier to get the heat level exactly where I want it. I DO think electric ovens tend to heat more evenly, though. My ideal stove would have gas burners on top and an electric oven, but I have no idea if such a beast actually exists.

My sister's gas stove and 2 electric ovens are completely separate critters in her kitchen, that may be the only way for you to get what you want.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. ;-) I admit it HAS been on my mind. I at least want to visit!

Ok: ulterior motive time: everything there except rent seems to be cheap. I'm going to have it kind of tight when I move, unless I share with someone, and I don't just share with someone I don't know. So I want a roommate ;)

But of course you're welcome to just come visit... sigh...

Going to do the run. Restarting week whatever, again.

Psst... Fort Collins is flat... and has nice sidewalks... good place to run outside, with a friend...

Ugh, I have the most miserable allergies today!

As long as my personal trackball, wireless headset, wrist wrests, and USB hub are still there, so am I. But at age 56, I've realized it doesn't pay to get too homey in a cubicle, so there's no artwork, family photos, desktop toys, etc.

Urgent Prayer Request

Within the last hour one of our students here at my school has had her son kidnapped from the school at which he attends kindergarten. The boy was signed out by a woman who signed the mother's name as picking him up. This was not discovered until the grandfather arrived to pick the boy up from school about an hour ago.

The mother has just left to meet the police at the elementary school. All family members have been called and none of the family claims to have picked the boy up so it appears to have been a stranger. Thanks for prayers ya'll. Updates when I know something else.

Certainly W...

It isn't a stranger.... it is someone who knows the mother's name.... and someone the boy would have known well enough to go along with.

I found yard ~banners~ big enough for the pasture or front of the boathouse...

And the price is a little steep! But I guess not if you consider it a donation.... I can't afford donations at this level, unfortunately.

That banner is a bit pricey, but the yard signs arent... really.

Big'ol just ordered us in some "gear": a yard sign, some buttons, bumper stickers and a pair of these:
