The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

An older rescue is definitely something I'd consider...if and when, of course. The only thing that I'm not so sure of is that some of the shelters have vey strict rules about who they give dogs to...require a large fenced-in yard and regular house visits for a time and all that. Makes me nervous.

Meanwhile...I'm back with my own "rescue". Well...not really. But I'm supposed to find a home for Fiona's brother, Fritz. He was Mom's dog...and Dad doesn't feel like they can really take care of him and they don't want him...and I don't think I could handle two dogs, especially not two dachshunds, which is why all this "planning" is just dreaming. Dad did a little bit of trying to place him, but didn't have much success...so he's having me try it and having me keep him for now. I'm looking up dachshund sites...will probably start there.

He's crying a little right now. Doesn't know why he's been taken away from home, poor little guy.

I'll try to get some pictures later.

I'm ho-ome!

Right now, just glad to be back. It was a great, but exhausting, trip. Will post some mountains later.

Ecurbh got to ride in his new saddle! We picked up the fitted pad yesterday.... Can't see here, but there is extra padding where his back is hollow.

Lunged him a little to get warmed up and accustomed to the new saddle.

He's up!

This is Bay refusing to walk over this little 4x4.... Testing to see if ecurbh would make 'im do it.

Going 'round it again...

Finally....

At quittin' time he gets an apple...

>>So....does he get to eat carbs eventually?

He will eventually get to add back in some grain products, I think (Ecurb can correct me if I'm wrong)...but they'll likely be few and far between and when he does, it'll be the best instead of just a bunch of trash, you know? He'll know just how many carbs he can have to keep from gaining his lost weight back...but that comes later.

He's in the phase called "Ongoing Weight Loss" now, he's taking in 25 carbs a day total (a pancake has 20). This includes nuts and seeds, which he is enjoying. My mom bought him some almond meal...I'm set if we catch Osama...I can make an almond meal crust for my pumpkin pie!

I know he couldn't have done it on aspartame or saccharine. Nasty stuff. But Splenda's not bad...I bought the big bag that measures like sugar and the little packets that measure out to a 8th of a teaspoon, but sweetens like 2 teaspoons of sugar. I use the measurable kind like regular sugar (in cooking) and he uses either the packets or an all natural extract called Stevia to sweeten his drinks. Powdered Splenda does have some carbs, stevia is completely carbless

Liquid Splenda is also completely carbless, but not approved in the U.S yet. You can get it from Canada.

I've done my homework, can you tell? LOL

Heh...kinda hard when you can't make rice or potatoes to go with it.

Guess salad, salad and more salad? And maybe some other veggies?

I'm gonna have leftover chili and corn chips, personally.

And was just informed that a bunch of siblings are coming here with a movie. I'm OK with that...so long as they don't complain about what's for dinner or in the fridge!

We're watching True Grit tonight, after the jedis get in from choir.

Matthew gets checked off on all 11 songs tonight! Took forever, even though he's been ready for a while, because of our 100 year anniversary celebrations at church (choir was put on hold) and then we were in Houston one weekend...

Finally tonight, he finishes his requirements!
