The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Then I guess I won't have to share why my college name was "Dahoud of the Desert". Good thing, that.
To: Ramius
If you're going to share names you have to tell how you got 'em!

Or do you think it's something I just don't want to hear?

Yep! My voice doesn't sound all I'm-all-congested-now, which is what I sounded like the minute I started feeling better physically.
And how are you?

No, I'm really saying I don't remember the circumstances whereabout that name stuck... honest. All I know is that it involved a *whole* lot of tequila and my other bud was named "Mandrew of the Mountain" for reasons that are equally unclear.
It's not my fault... :-)

Master Sea-man, that sounds like a very shaggy dog story in and of itself!

Well, I am good. I haven't been sick. Glad to hear you're feeling better physically and that your voice is better. I am completely enjoying this springtime weather! It has been beautiful here for a week! :-)

LOL.... not your fault huh? Now, I'm really curious! Nobody said anything about fault. :-)
So, does this have to do with your aversion to tequila? That lovely liquid of the Gods? hmmmm?

Since no one asked, my other name is Raylene Antoniette McVeigh ... but I was very young when I made that one up.

There were no dogs present that I recall, shaggy or otherwise. :-)
Enormous quanties of alcohol may not be a legal excuse for laws bent or broken... but it *is* a plausible explanation for same.
By way of explanation... there are whole *months* of the year 1982 that I don't really have recall. There are really just frames of moments. Some or most of which are not suitable for mixed company. :-)

Hiya Raylene!!!
When I used to write.... years and years ago.... I went by the name Dixie Darlen. :-)
For a time Myranda picked up on that and adopted the name Daisy Darlen for herself. :-)

Here's an email I got from a non-FR email list I'm on. It's from a recently-retired Army engineer officer, who received one of our HH knives.
From: Bruce O. Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 07:41:42 -0600 Subject: RE: Hobbit Hole knife update
Rick -- have you ever considered obtaining a quantity of the knives that are confiscated by the TSA at airports? Somewhere I read that TSA sells them by lots somehow (IIRC I've even received spam offering them for sale). I know that someone out there got my $60 pocket knife and Leatherman Micro from the Philly airport. Perhaps you might be able to get them at no or dramatically reduced prices . . . granted, you won't have control over what is in the box, but you might be able to get them cheap.
I do have a CPT and 2 x LTs at Ft. McCoy - deploying to Afghanistan for a year within a matter of weeks if you'd consider sending them one.
BTW, the guys from the XYZth Engineer Battalion in Kuwait asked me to pass on a hearty thank you for the 5 you sent them!

It's been raining down here ... but as long as I don't have to walk around in it, I don't mind.
It's good for the trees. I like this time of year, with everything budding and flowering and growing like mad. it's soooo pretty ...!
