The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

It reminds me of stories I have heard at family reunions about lions on the looseI believe there was a story posted on FR last year about some lions loose in Tennessee! I think they had escaped from someone who was keeping exotic animals illegally. BTW, the movie you mention also reminds me of Born Free, LOL!

I learned all I know about being a granny from my precious Grama! I can only hope to live up to her level of grandmotherliness! But, I sure am havin' fun tryin'! :-)It's the trying that counts! I'm sure it'll be fun :)

I had to do a search for the Hosts file. Once I got the file modified I kept getting that "FOCUS cookie" message when I tried to log on. So I closed all the browser windows and got on through the regular link that I have on my homepage.

Yep, along with the comments in it that said "DON'T" hehehe... that's OK... that's just there to discourage amateurs from mucking about in things they ought'nt. Win98/95/3.11/DOS (all the same OS) actually prefers LMHOSTS over HOSTS. That might work. As I recall, in the TCP/IP configuration for a particular network connector, there is also a checkbox that needs checked... as I recall it says something to the effect of "Use LMHOSTS file" for DNS lookups.
It's been close to 12 hours since the DNS issue was fixed, and it should be that these workarounds should stop being necessary pretty soon. As soon as the name servers at your ISP finally update off the root servers the whole problem should go away. The decay of DNS root server updates is a half-life model. About every 12 hours half of the un-updated DNS servers across the internet finally get a zone transfer of updated information. 12 hours later another half get updated... 12 hours later another half... and so on and so on...
For most users in the US it only takes about 24 hours, though 36 hours is not uncommon. For the rest of the planet it can take up to a week for all the updates to cascade out...

Granny was born in Woodbury, TN. Her mother was a Sullins. There were a number of Sullinses and Osments who all came to Texas together specifically to the Waco area. Granny is buried in the Hubbard Cemetery along with her parents, husband, and siblings.
Now, Meridian. I *know* that my Papa Johnson was born in Meridian. His father, Sam Johnson, was killed in a wagon accident in 1903 in Ennis when Sam was only a baby. I also remember an Osment cousin, grandma's first cousin, lives in Teague.

Amazing, I have not had any troubles getting onto the site at all today. Then again, I was gone from 3:00 until 9:30.

Wn; indeed it is good news, many thanks given to the Lord, prayers for healing shall continue.

Hehehe....the MSTY version. Couldn't take it any other way.Me, neither--that was a bad one, LOL! It's not a good sign when the hero's name is Fingle. . .

But at least it was somewhat redeemed by the Pearl Public Television pledge drive and the call at the end to Memory Bank Tech Support--LOL! Dopple me out of this movie--ROFL!
To: Professional Engineer
DNS = Do Not Surf That's only in pre-2K windoze systems. :-) Finally in Win2K and XP there is a *real* TCP/IP stack. but I digress...
To: osagebowman
Amen Osage. I know this has been a relatively short time in being taken care of but it sure has seemed like a long prayer burden for Corin. I'm glad to have this part over.

To: Ramius
and you would need to know this why??? LOL
They make a smaller amount of sense unless you know what's behind them.
And I am totally open about my real name here... but, my road names have to be kept more close. LOL

Yeah I like the PPTV fundraiser....especially when she's talking about scamming the feel-good liberals.LOL! That cracked me up--and it was so much like a real public television drive it was scary! :) I also liked the part where the monkey attacked Mike and the 'Bots instructed him to appear non-threatening by "uking"--that was in that one, right? :)
"The movie that just keeps chucking rectangles at you"--LOL!
