The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Then we had to explain to her that her files aren't actually in the monitor. That took awhile, too.

Back aound 1989 I was taking a DBase III class. The instructor did consulting for his primary job. He told the story of a company that was losing all their data every night!

One day he went to the site and observed the operation all day long. No problems arose. At the end of the day, the secretary shut down and...

His observation was, "I have good news and bad news. The good news is, I know what your problem is. The bad news is, you're going to have to reenter all your data again tomorrow".

at the end of the day, she took the floppy out of the drive and stuck it to the steel filing cabinet using a large magnet.

heh, actually it is usually just cat food that hasn't even been crunched or chewed. You know, now that I think about it, maybe her teeth are bothering her...

She is part siamese, too. She is completely black, except for the one gray whisker on her face. Her features and personality, though, are classic Siamese. wish I had a pic scanned to show you how beautiful she was when she was younger.

Oh, yeah, I loved Silver Streak, along with Wilder's Young Frankenstein. Trading Places was also great--actually the only Eddie Murphy movie I found as funny as his SNL stuff. I think my other favorite SNL-spinoff movies are The Jerk, Ghostbusters, and Austin Powers. And then there was SCTV. . .

I have a couple recurring dreams...

Are they like "Groundhog Day" dreams, where everything's the same except for you? I get those all the time.

I am going to talk to my mother about putting BC on softer food. All three cats eat the same food right now. It's the runchy, Purina-one hairball formula, I think. Since BC doesn't even chew up her food, that would definitely effect digestion.

Occassionally, I get the classic-Superman gift of leaping (not flying) for long distances. But not very often. :(

Same here: when that happens, I can only fly for short distances--sometimes I'll end up "hopping" long distances in John Carter of Mars-like fashion. I've only had a couple dreams where I actually flew without inhibition. In one I actually found myself drifting out of the Earth's atmosphere--that was wild! But as soon as I noticed I was doing it I came back down again--from what I've read I guess the key is not to wake up when you become self-conscious of it. I've managed that a few times, but can't do it consistently. When I do have dreams like that they tend to be either superhero or vampire-related dreams. I actually did dream I was Superman once, and was fighting a bunch of zombies who were trying to get Lois Lane :)

The school dreams are basic anxiety dreams, which I believe are the most common type of dream. I get those so much I feel like I'm picking up an associate's degree in my sleep. Or I would be if I didn't keep missing class. ;-)

LOL!

PE and I went to the JP. We didn't elope. We could have, I guess, but that might have been more expensive.

One of my friends was bothered that they weren't invited. MY response was that no one was invited. My bestfriend was there, and that was it.

Computer stuff! I was sitting in class tonight wishing you could hear the exchange I had with one student. I'm teaching Basic CADD again this quarter. We're only 2 classes away from midterm. I've got one student that just doesn't have what it takes. Tonight he was trying to do a polar array. Okay, we've been over this in class and practiced several times on exercises.

First, he raises his hand, "Uh, Mrs. Burlington, how to I get that array dialogue box to come up?" I asked how he entered the array command thinking perhaps he'd used the switch to turn the dialogue box off. He said he hadn't entered the command he just wanted to get the dialogue box.

Much conversation went on with me giving him directions for how to enter all the info for the array. We get to the end, he's entered all the information, he's previewed his array, and he sits there staring at the screen. I asked him what he was waiting for. He said, well, I don't know how to make the dialogue box go away now. I suggested he hit the "accept" button. He said, "how do I do that?"

And I was just *wishing* you were there to see this.... cause how can you believe that this would *really* happen? Midterm exam next week. Should be VEY interesting!

How about having dreams that you can not only fly, but can also breathe underwater?
