The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heya-

Como esta frijole! (How you bean?)

DB pics are coming. maybe this evening.

We have the sneakiest, most passive aggressive batch of estrogen running this place. But I'm trying to take heart: If one can be that big an idiot and keep the job, I've got nothing to worry about. My biggest problem is having standards.

*alas*

Office politics. Yuck!

I can't complain all that much. I do like my job, and it can always be worse... I could still be teaching. lol

I think maybe it's a bit more hopeful than your friend guessed,

Let's hope so! :) BTW on the age I wasn't sure I had given him the right impression on that and he asked me about that later, so I went back and noticed one of your posts where you mentioned Cleo's age and saw she wasn't that young. Anyway, I'll keep praying about it!

Planning to watch 5000 Fingers of Dr. T later today :)

There is that. I would not actually mind it so much if it weren't for the female "wanna-be-men" deans! Guess that goes on just about everyplace nowdays though.

Yeah, I have ones just like that. Or where I am a rebel freedom fighter or something. One of the most shocking ones I have had was the one were I was a vampire.

I have action movie dreams like you guys are describing, too :) I've only been a vampire in one, though; usually I'm a vampire hunter. For a while in college I had recurring dreams about being chased by either vampires or Great White Sharks. Don't have those as much anymore, but every so often. Have the secret agent dreams like Rosie is describing, too :) Since the War on Terror started I've also started having dreams about terrorists. Had some weird dreams during the Iraq War. Here is one I had March 13, 2003 (a few days before the war started) that I emailed my friend about:

I just woke up from a very vivid dream about a coup in Iraq. I and an audience of hostages were watching a closed-circuit TV of Saddam and about half a dozen bodyguard. I sensed Saddam's time had come and mentally "pushed" in that direction. Saddam snapped, grabbed a machine gun, and started shooting his own guards. He was dragged off-camera and the TV went out for a second. When it came back on it showed the Republican Guards executing Saddam. My and the audience's first reaction was skepticism that it was really Saddam rather than a staged death. As if in response to that thought, a member of the Republican Guard held Saddam's severed head to the screen. His face (looking in bad shape, reminiscent of the picture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed after his arrest they've been showing lately) had been half burned off, but it seemed to be him. The Republican Guard member seemed to be possessed by the Devil, and a realization flashed through all of us of that these people were as inhumanly brutal as Saddam and they were now in charge of the country, putting resistance members in great danger. A couple of us snuck away to a warehouse to find weapons to overthrow the Republican Guards. At that point the dream started moving onto other topics.

Then about a week later, on March 23, I had this dream:

I had another weird dream about the war last night. In this one I was part of some group advancing on an Iraqi palace. We got inside and took the palace without much resistance because the enemy had disappeared. But once we were inside, I started to wonder where our enemies had gotten to. I got a bad feeling and decided I'd better look out the window. First I saw that the building was surrounded by an army of giraffes (!) coming out of palm trees around the perimeter. Behind the first wave of giraffes came another wave mounted by Arabs. They crashed through the building from all sides. I tried to warn the others but there was no time, so I tried to find somewhere to hide on another floor in the building until I could figure out a plan of counterattack. Mounting a giraffe of my own to get away, I got all the way to the top of the building (which was an Arab prince's bedroom), and couldn't find anywhere to hide, so I came back downstairs with the intent of either fighting my way out if possible or surrendering if not. When I got back downstairs I saw from a distance that there was some type of meeting in the main room of the building, and it wasn't clear who was now in charge of the building, us or the enemy. I woke up before I found out.

A few months later on May 18 I had this one, which really freaked me out:

I was jolted awake a few minutes ago by a nightmare that WWIII had broken out between the US and China. I was in this building with a group of people talking to Abraham Lincoln, who was a great covnersationalist--he was showing us what his old 1800s study Bible looked like, it was very cool. Suddenly we noticed everyone in the room running for the windows--something going on outside. We all went out to look and a crowd had gathered in downtown Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan. Something was very wrong--the sky changed color in places--jets?--bombs? "They found an h-bomb," I heard somebody say. Suddenly machine-gun fire hitting the area between the lake and where we were--Chinese troops advancing out of nowhere, too close for us to escape. Some of us were trying to figure out a way to get away and were about to run when we heard a speakerphone behind us boom out, "Retreat!" I turned and US troops were coming from behind to reinforce us. We were caught in the middle. It was about to hit the fan. . .

Those are some dreams I've had which make me agree with you that "Some dreams are way too realistic"! Forutunately ones that intense are pretty rare for me. More often it's just some mild action scenes.

You know, speaking of office politics, I'm trying to figure something out right now myself. If it's an insult or something nice somebody tried to do.

On my birthday nobody was around and I didn't get any gifts. Everyone at work forgot about my birthday but the secretary remembered after the fact. So, yesterday, she brought me a gift. It's a denim dress. Thing is, it is a size 2XL. Uh, I wear like an 8 right now. The dress is new, still in a wrapper and she said she'd ordered it just for me. But, I can't for the life of me figure why she'd order me a 2XL. And she's about that size so I was thinking she might have gotten it for herself and then felt bad because everyone forgot and just given me that because she had it. But, she is known to be quite catty at times, so she coulda been thinkin' it was a gag gift. Not sure.

I'm perplexed... but laughing about it.

Steve is down 14 pounds now!

Excellent! :) I've been hearing a lot of good results like that from people on Atkins.

Oh, I LOVE irises! I have a bunch of them right by my front door and the entrance is just lovely when they're in bloom.

Vey strange! Not sure how you should take that. Clearly she didn't buy it for you! Maybe she was just feeling guilty and didn't have any money for anything else?

I have them in several places in my flower beds. Years ago Grama bought me 4 "special" iris bulbs. I planted those 4 and all the ones I have now have grown from those original 4 bulbs. I don't know how many there are but those bulbs have been thriving and multiplying all these years!

Well, I wondered that too. I actually tried it on because I thought after her giving this to me I should wear it today. ????

If I do, it will be interesting. It will become a jumper. LOL The V-neck goes down - uh - where it ain't supposed to. I think both my kids and me could fit in this dress! LOL

At least, truly, I have had a good chuckle over it!

Believe me. This dress would work for you! I got it on now. Got it belted up. Doesn't look bad - putting on red boots too. But, with the belt, the dress is completely wrapped around me more then 2 times! LOL

Yeah, probably.

It's funny....when we got to Kansas, the two other "lady techs" were putting on this paranoid act ....well, maybe it was real....about how uncomfortable they felt being interviewed by all men. I and the other "lady tech" from NC were saying "It's better being interviewed by men. They aren't catty and the women bosses mostly turn out to be b*tches.

You know...in the just shy of ten years that I've been in the "real" workforce (yikes...getting to be a long time!), I've never had a woman as a direct supervisor.

Sounds like...maybe I'm lucky? ;-)
