The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

"Demolition Man" is fun. Good blow-'em-up action, a really pleasant future dystopiaI didn't know there was such a thing as a pleasant dystopia!--sounds creative :)

I like any kind of ice cream with chunks of DARK chocolate in it. Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Dove Dark Chocolate and plain old peanut M&M's. Any of that can cure all the evils that befall me! HEB Creamy Creations Java Chocolate Chunk. There IS no substitute!

The concept of the X-Men allows for literally millions of potential members. And that history of Kitty's doesn't mention everything. For example, her father got mixed up with the Japanese yakuza, which is part of the reason why she was went to Japan.Yep--in the Wolverine and Kitty Pryde Limited Series :)
Wolverine went because his wife was a yakuza leader. The yakuza play a big role in the X-Men's history.
And also, Wolverine himself was trained as a samurai.

Pleasant dystopias are where Everything is For Your Own Good. Hell with training wheels and padded corners.
One amusing bit the movie has is these 'ticket-dispensers' that fine you for bad language. I don't usually like profanity and vulgarity in movies but there's a very clever bit... it's a stupid movie, but fun. Lots of explosions.

The history of Storm, now ... that's several pages long to get to the high points! Here's a summary of just her pre-X-Men career:
Storm
History: Storm is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom have white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic. Her mother, N'Dare, was the princess of a tribe in Kenya. She married the American photojournalist David Munroe and moved with him to Manhattan, where Ororo was born.
When Ororo was six months old, she and her parents moved to Cairo, Egypt. Five years later, a bomb destroyed their home. Ororo's parents were killed, but she survived, buried under rubble near her mother's body. This traumatizing effect left Ororo with the severe claustrophobia that still afflicts her today.
Homeless and orphaned, Ororo, came under the tutelage of master thief Achmed el-Gibar. She became his prize pupil in thievery and in picking locks.
Years later, feeling a strong urge to go south, Ororo journeyed alone across the Sahara Desert and finally reached her ancestors' homeland, the Serengeti Plain, which lies in the modern nations of Kenya and Tanzania. By this time her mutant power to control the weather had emerged, and she used them to help the local tribes, who worshipped her as a goddess.
Ororo remained with the tribes for years until Professor Charles Xavier recruited her into the new team of X-Men he was assembling. She was given the code name "Storm" after her power to affect the weather. Except for brief periods away from the team, Storm has remained in the X-Men ever since and shares leadership of the X-Men with Cyclops.

Sigh. Looks like I'm going to need a bigger allowance. Or more time spent in Barnes and Nobles.

I didn't even know Storm had another name. Um. Guess I'm not much of a fan if all I know are the movies.

LOL! Sounds funny--I may have to see that :)

ROFL! They should make a horror movie about the black pant suit being haunted or something--reminds me of that one Dr. Seuss story with the pants that walked around by themselves. . .

I didn't even know Storm had another name. Um. Guess I'm not much of a fan if all I know are the movies. The movies didn't really develop her character much. She's had some interesting adventures. For instance, one time Colossus was getting beat by this villain who could absorb any brute force you threw at him and hit you back with it, but Storm figured out a way around that by making the air around him freeze :) Another time Dracula was summoning lightning bolts at the X-Men, but Storm one-upped him :) She's probably the most potentially powerful X-Man after Phoenix and Professor X.

She IS a horror movie!
Even her house is creepy. All overgrown and hidden from the road. She lives right behind a funeral home, believe it or not! Ugh!
