The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I am not sure you *can* see these cartoons anymore. I don't think my brother (age 24) even knows about half of the ones I listed, and he was a TV fiend.

They're on the Boomerang affiliate of Nickelodeon. They're on all week, and then every weekend will showcase a different year of cartoons, including many of the more obscure Hanna-Barbera ones. Like this weekend Valley of the Dinosaurs was on. They show some stuff I saw when I was very little that I never thought I'd see again, as well as a lot of stuff I never saw because I was born after it was on and it never made it to syndication.

Sorta been there done that, except at night, on the flightline, in subzero WX. Didja know that a steel toe combet boot fits quite nicely in the tailpipe of a refueling truck? Well, it does.

I can't believe ya'll haven't had a major public outcry over that! If I understand correctly, this is a route that *must* be used regularly. No real other option? Somebody should be taken to task for this!

Well... we DID have a vote on it. Among the people that live there and would use it every day it was polling about 80% NO on a the new bridge. SOOO... they expanded the counties for the vote to include voters all the way up to Seattle (The Soviet of Seattle) and all the way down to Olympia (remember Rachel Corrie and Evergreen State College???) and even though they decided to make it NON-Binding at the last minute, it barely passed anyway. But on MY side of the bridge the vote was still 80/20 toward NO new bridge.

It's like dropping a toll booth onto my driveway.

The vote didn't really matter. They had already started construction on it, so it was clear that it didn't matter how the vote was going to go.

But am I BITTER about it? Well... yes. :-)

Gonna have to go meet up with the Peninsula Militia. We got stuff to do. :-) Shame about how they're gonna have to rebuild those toll booths every week or so...

I know them steel toe boots get awful cold with the wind comin' at 'em at 70-80MPH too! And when you do a gas-stop, proppin' your foot on the heads can sure help that steel absorb some o' the heat! LOL... you gotta do what you gotta do huh?

Aww man... that just makes ya sick to your stomach!

I've gone through a really *wrong* vote on a new building project but it sure didn't amount to something as major as that! Pretty similar overall circumstances ... course, we were in a rural county... there weren't as many of us and the tax hit was bad... but nothin' like what you're talking about there!

Gees, I'd be goin' with the militia too.

Boomerang channel? Never heard of it. Then again, we don't have cable. I watched Superfriends religiously. Space ghost was cool too, but I wasn't as fond of Birdman or Johnny Quest.

What gets me is that nowadays it isn't Saturday morning cartoons anymore. One network channel has Nick-toons and the other Disney-toons, and that is it. Plus, what toons there are, don't come on TV until 8:30?? IS that right? I remember getting up at 6:30am to watch cartoons. The good ones were on early.

OH yeah, and Sooouuull Train! (that came on at noon)

In our area, we voted on funding new stadiums. Voted it down. But what do the voters know? So we've got new stadiums.

Admitedly, I like PNC Park, but the Pirates haven't won since 1997, so... (not quite that bad, but close).

I'm goin' to bed too.

but OS X was a Godsend

They don't play nice with DHCP

Of course, because OS X is based on a flavor of Unix.

(Unix likes static IPs.)

Yeah, I hate the way they've ruined the Saturday morning cartoon tradition. But some of the cable stations seem to be trying to revive it, I've noticed. The best new cartoons I've seen are the superhero ones they show on the Cartoon Network--X-Men and Justice League and others--but usually those are on at night rather than Saturday mornings like they used to.

And yeah, I remember how Souuuuullll Train used to come on at noon--LOL! Also American Bandstand and Love American Style :) When those came on I knew the cartoons were over and it was time to run outside and play :)

Land of the Lost was awesome! The acting was bad but the writing and fx were great--they'd actually get sf writers for the writing.

BTW, here's the LotL fan site, where DVDs of the original episodes are now available:

Land of the Lost dot com

I've heard a remake of LotL is in the works, but don't know the current status--there's probably news on the site.

I also liked the other Krofft shows, esp. Sigmund the Sea Monster and Electra Woman and Dynagirl.

LOL, elf-boy is still sleeping with the Spiderman action figure, and has ousted me from my spot. Not room enough for all three of us in the same bed.

Ah well, I will probably end up on the couch anyway since I get up every night around 1:00am with a backache (only 6 more weeks till babydue!!!).
