The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I have this thing called EZPass. It's a device that sits on my windshield and I go through the toll booth without stopping. The charge goes directly to my credit card.
It makes things a lot easier, since I don't have power windows and trying to roll up the window and shift into second is really tough...

Even the aggies down here can do better than that! Heck, even the Army Corps of Engineers can do better than that!

My ex-wife used to just drive through the troll boothes. Not pay, not slow down. Thankfully she never got caught, or I'd still be paying the bloody fine.

I'm glad you're a good sport! :-)
You know I'm used to this banter with my Aggie brother and uncles! I just can't seem to bite my tongue....or my fingers!

trying to roll up the window and shift into second is really tough... Oh, come on! Piece of cake... (seriously though, I have had to do that before, and if you're not accustomed to driving a stick, it could be tricky.)

Mmm, the tricky part is steering into the right lane for Westbound. I can't quite do three hand-tasks with two hands.

I've thought about it before... even done it a coupla times on 8 down in Houston when I was riding in a pack and the whole group went through - not our ministry.
In downtown Dallas that night in the rain there was a cop parked right there at the booth downtown. I figured runnin' it wasn't a good choice.

So, does the old bridge stay so you can use that option? Or will you *have* to use the new bridge? That don't even make no sense. After they finish the new bridge, then both of them will be made into three-lanes and each will be one-way. But one of the three lanes will be buses only. So it'll end up being two lanes of traffic either way.
Now... the toll will only be charged one way. So that $6 is only a round-trip cost (lucky me!!). Seems that state law prohibits them from putting a toll BACK on the old bridge, since it was already bought and paid for with tolls thirty years ago, when the tolls were taken OFF. But they get around that by making them now both one-way bridges and only charging a toll on the NEW bridge. Sick, ain't it?

Oh honey. That is sick and wrong on *so* many levels! I can't believe ya'll haven't had a major public outcry over that!
If I understand correctly, this is a route that *must* be used regularly. No real other option? Somebody should be taken to task for this!

Yeah, and I forgot to mention, in the midst of all that you gotta take off the leather gloves that are rain soaked in order to do that gymnastic thing of getting in your wet denim pockets under the wet leather. And then get them smushy wet leather gloves back on! Ugh! I was so mad!!!

Top Cat, The Banana Splits, Secret Squirrel, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Huckleberry Hound, Wacky Races (catch the pigeon...), Hong Kong Phooey, Captain Caveman. The list goes on.Do you get the Boomerang channel? I usually watch reruns of those on there. I like most of those, with my favorites on that list being Scooby Doo (in a class by itself IMO), Flintstones, Banana Splits, and Hong Kong Fooey. Also among Hanna-Barberas I love Superfriends and the earlier superhero cartoons that it was derived from. Johnny Quest is also fun. I also like watching Space Ghost and Birdman, but in those cases it's partly to make fun of them in relation to Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast :)
