I would be willing to bet a steak dinner AND an expensive bottle of wine - ah heck - AND a Million Dollars that it will end up being the HIGHEST grossing film EVER, even adjusting FOR INFLATION.....

... in the category of non-english religous films with subtitles......UNLESS Gibson does another similar one!!

I heard that The Passion of The Christ would have a very limited audience because no one will sit through some religious movie in Aramaic and Latin.

Well, that sure turned out not being the case, lol!

It has already made a passionate box office statement to Hollywood.

Anything else is a bonus.

Titanic was a mainstream film.

Passion is an assault on Democratic 'values', otherwise known as 'Evil'.

Please give your opinion: Will it fizzle or fume? What sayest thou?

We don't follow the movie industry (yet, we may in a few years when the kids hit teenage), and only have the comparisons made to Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" to draw from.

It's my hope that the movie's contributions be measured in something more durable than money -- and that the boxoffice is truly a reflection of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Best Movie I have ever seen. Biggest in my lifetime because of the impact it has made on my life and my wifes life.( no more lukewarm Christianity in this house)
I pray more will see it and it will do better than all have predicted.

The only question to me is whether it will pass Titanic in the US box office, and since I don't want to sell the good Lord short, I'm going to vote for "The Passion."

Certainly, when world-wide box office and DVD sales are taken into account, "The Passion" will be number one.

If you don't adjust for inflation, this is a rather useless exercise. #1 adjusted is Gone With the Wind, and #2 is Star Wars.

Thanks. Pretty silly if they don't account for inflation.

I plan to see it again in the theater, because I found it so shocking that I don't feel that I truly saw the whole movie, but I may not be typical.

I've heard a lot of people say this, including myself ;-)

"I am hoping and praying that the movie is inspiring people to faith"

That will be its true and lasting benefit. The box office figures are interesting, and a fun way to judge its impact on Hollywood, and the impact of the ONCE "silent Majority" in the culture wars.

(I think that is the title of Roe's book when she converted to Christianity: Silent no More.)

I will be astonished if the DVD is not the all time high selling movie - and shortly after its release.

I suspect the movie will be easily over $500M in the US based on my informal poll that only about 1/4 who intend to see it have yet done so. The volume will be higher than that, though, but how much higher, I've no guess.

We should pray for Mel Gibson, too (may he grow in knowledge, wisdom, love, etc.).
