Something tells me that if they could send one ship that far that they could send more. And the more might be bigger and better armed than the ambassador ship.

I would assume any life-form capable of making the trip to Earth would be a rational being, and as such should understand our response to its arrival. We take no chances with unregulated food imports, it would be unthinkable to let a creature from another planet, a product of a completely different evolutionary path and with potentially billions of stow-away viruses just do as it pleases. ET will just have to understand.

You figure, if they're here to make first contact and not wipe us out, they'd study us first and, oh, I don't know, read articles like this one?

Why even get off their ships? If I was an advanced, peaceful race looking to make first contact with a primitive, tempermental species, I would make sure that no potentially dangerous situation like this could arise.

Agree completely. I think the welcome team needs to resign itself to possibly dying of something we have no idea every existed as the cost of doing business.

Better for the aliens to realize they are killing us off by respirating on us and for them to do something about it then us clapping them in irons, putting them in trucks and hauling them off to plum island.

I agree--If ET comes he will be treated like an ambassidor from another land. The last thing we want to do is slice and dice him. What would happen if two weeks latter Emperor Ming comes with his battle fleet asking what happened to his son he sent on the peace mission?

I agree. All the experts are adamant about trying to contact extra-terrestrials and sending messages. This may turn out to have been a very, very bad idea. We have no way of knowing until it's too late at best.

They have plenty of mother ships about in deep space. I don't doubt that.

Supposedly, their base(s) on the moon were one of the reasons we were ordered out of space and to not return to the moon. It's interesting now that Bush has said we're going back. I wonder what's changed.
