No kidding. Do we really want to tick off a being that managed to come here via an unkown power source, who just may have on it's person a self destruct mechanism for the ship and itself and who's buddies might be sitting on the dark side of the moon waiting for the all clear message that says we aren't a bunch of a-holes? You figure, if they're here to make first contact and not wipe us out, they'd study us first and, oh, I don't know, read articles like this one?
Why even get off their ships? If I was an advanced, peaceful race looking to make first contact with a primitive, tempermental species, I would make sure that no potentially dangerous situation like this could arise.
They've done pretty well on that score--especially after realizing that our embryonic radar installations were messing with their stability and navigation and they made sufficient adjustments.
Still, some say surfing a gravity wave as supposedly some craft typically do--is as much art as science.
