The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

You know somethin' gnad, when I was in school it was things exactly what you did today that helped me fall in love with history and politics. Ya never know who mighta been raptly listenin' and fascinated. One still makes it worth it. If I was there I woulda been that one and you wouldn't o' known it cause I never talked in school.

Did you ever hear anything else about the shipment of knives that you sent to Steve?Steve says, "nothing yet", but I'll file the insurance claim after Feb. 17. Yeah, it was all spelled out in the customs form. But I also sent it insured, which means the post office has to watch out for that kind of stuff. There was nothing else in the package, so I had to say "pocket tools" on the customs form.
The post office also told me there has been 100% inspection of all mail to APOs since that "orange/yellow" high alert. Once the latest batch of knives is engraved, I'm going to sheip another bunch to Steve. Maybe I'll split it into 3 or 4 shipments. Costs more, but maybe some of them will make it through. If the original knives appear in Iraq, Steve can use them as trading stock. If they're gone, and if the post office pays off on the insurance (a big IF, the PO rarely pays up), I'll buy more knives.
Speaking of Steve, here's a picture of him and his truck, and a part of the "garage" they can't use right now because of a little visit by the Air Force when the place was under previous management.

Lisa... Southern Cal... Lab puppy standards.... shaving collies...
Yah know... she's talking just like the crazy lady down the bar. In fact, now that I look... the crazy lady looks sorta like Lisa, only about 70 or so with gray hair and a shawl.

Do you have a clue how much lunalady has actually had to drink? Or did she just come in insane?

Are they contraband? - Did they just get confiscated in the inspection? If that might happen I'd have to wonder if the radios would too.

Well, it's time for me to hit the hay, here. Hopefully I don't wake up sick. Not the way I wanna start the weekend! I got stuff to do.
I get to drive the van tomorrow...woo-hoo! I gotta say...now I'm used to the van, that car was just scary. I don't think I'll own another compact car anytime soon...even other CARS made me feel claustrophobic. It's a very NICE little car...but I like my higher seat and heavier vehicle now!

Well, hey, I was gonna buy the poor bastard a beer for being such a trooper, and keeping her off of me.
But then I realized that he was trying to finish his beer and sign out so he could get away.

Glad to get the photos WM. It is good to see Steve. And even the work of the Air Force. Hope they get the garage fixed one of these days.

Ya know.... we've heard all these stories about Sonya and Lisa.... and they're Hair's dear friends..... should we be concerned that she calls *us* dear friends as well? Is this something I should go tell a shrink?

there was this young fella tuhday that was real upset... he's knucklehead, and a jerk to the other students... I asked him tuh step out in the hall... he started cryin' that nobody likes him and everyone's mean tuh him...
I said if he'd stop bein' a jerk people wouldn't treat him like that... he said he treats 'em the way they treat him, like the golden rule says... I said "hold on there you... Jesus said tuh love those that hate you, show kindness to those who would hurt you..." said he couldn't change them, but he could sure change the way he acted and treated his classmates... I told him it's hard to be mean to someone who is kind... it may take a while, but when they see you've changed, they'll treat you different... God loves yuh... so stop bein' an ass and get back in the classroom...

She's movin' fast, our Lisa, but there is no one at the wheel!
I told her it was not practical to read a standard and understand the breed well enough to pick a puppy.... especially when choosing a puppy for show is a guessing game even for the very experienced. You can't tell whether a puppy is going to have good conformation or not. I said there are more Labradors born every year than any other breed, and that most are not show quality. If she really wants to get into Labs she needs to study it more than a couple minutes on the phone.
She has too many dogs now.
And I didn't feel like it.
To: Ramius
So, he got away and left her for YOU! :-)
Good luck darlin'. You might have better luck elsewhere!

Do you have a clue how much lunalady has actually had to drink? Or did she just come in insane? Whatever she's had to drink is miniscule in relation to the greater evident problem(s). Oh... there is a God. She just left. [heavy sigh] Now the beertender is talking about her. Apparently she's been here since 4pm.

To: Ramius
No fear here! I will boldly go forth as I am. One of Hair's dear friends! LOL
