The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

After I finish Princess Bride, I'm going to look up Doomsday. I'm looking forward to reading it!

Glad your kitty has his rabbit back!

My poor Tam...he used to have a fuzzy pom-pom kinda ball that he would play fetch with for hours. I'd be sitting at the computer Freeping or whatever, and he'd bring me the ball, I'd through it and continue typing, he'd bring it again...

It got lost when we moved, but one day I found it in the basement. He was soooo happy! He carried it all around for a couple of days...until the day he left it on the couch and Fiona shredded it completely. *snif*

Well, the funeral service went pretty well, only one tearful eulogy form Ernie's son + 3 humorous ones from fishing club members who just told fishing stories.

It was held in one of the fancier and wealthier temples. Kind of funny to see a bunch of outsized 4x4 pickup trucks in the parking lot there, which is what our guys favor as boat towing rigs.

Ernie's ashes will be scattered over his favorite fishing waters next week. Very sad.

Excellent! Everyone should read that book. It, however, is not in the least Wodehousian. I think you'll like it for a lot of reasons... like the subtly Christian messages, or the wonderful portrayal of the priest... Mr. Dunworthy and Finch, the bellringers... ohh, I wish I were reading it for the first time!

But it sounds like he had a full life, Sam! Sounds like he was remembered fondly.

Hard to say goodbye, though...

As much as I'd like to stay and visit...I gotta go. Steve'll be home soon.

Only three eggs today. Puffy skipped AGAIN.

See you later!

You'll love Princess Bride, too. It's a grand read. I have a nice hardcover I got for Christmas just sitting on the shelf. I think Chapter 2 is my favorite ;-)

Suzi... I know your family has read some of Vernor Vinge's stuff together and I am certain you would all love "Doomsday Book". Connie Willis is the author, and it's even better than Vinge's stuff.

Good evening everyone.

Yes, Ernie had a full life and a pretty long one too.
Still, we're sorry to say goodbye to him.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

WN; that's one of the reason we have three hammers, four utility knives, three tape measures, two chalk lines.....

Precisely Osage! The accumulation of tools is equivalent to wealth - right?

I have located all hammers now. They are all exactly where I can lay my hands on them in 30 seconds at present.... for now...

My recruiter, when he was working his way through college, worked for a time at a restaurant/bar/dance hall. Got to know Pat Green and Corey Morrow quite well, from the times they performed in the place.

Right now most of the stuff I'm seeing is new construction "McHouses",

Yeah... those are what I was trying in the worst way to avoid. This one is pretty boring on the outside but more interesting on the inside. I figured I could garden up the outside to make up for it. The price was right and I was OUT OF TIME!!!

He's a country singer. Been around Texas singin' for a long time. Gotten more popular recently.
