The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Blah, blah, blah. Should I sue my parents for concentrating on math instead of pop culture?

Hmmmm... I didn't seem to do too bad Jen. My first kid may have been in public school but she was awarded a full scholarship in pre-med to one of the priciest private schools in the state.

Cool...
...and everybody told me that "Pink Floyd" was a terrible name for a kid.
To: JenB
Oh, and I forgot to mention that while working on her 4.0 GPS to earn that she also had the lyrics of most pop culture songs in her memory. Some kids can do both!

No, you didn't do bad! I didn't mean to criticize you, either.
I just mean my parents tended to leave pretty much all the cultural stuff outside... we watched "Star Trek", and listened to Christian kids' tapes, and read a lot. I never really missed it... but now, things like "South Park" scare me. And I don't know who Waylon Jennings is.
However, if he were a writer of science fiction, I'd have known who he was. To each, his own.

I've always thought songs were good inspirations for kid's names... LOL
Gives 'em a good identity to start off life with!

but now, things like "South Park" scare me. And rightfully so. :-)

I guess it's just what interests you. I can tell you the author and plot of almost any story I've read. Ever. I can explain how Feanor and Galadriel are related - I can even draw charts. I just don't really know the difference between - I don't even know any names to say, I don't know, about!
I don't feel like I missed anything but I don't think the other sort of knowledge is inferior, exactly. I just don't care who wrote the latest pop hit.

Pick Floyd could have been tolorable for a kid, before the punk rocker Pink came out, if any one identified my kid with her....... well, that would just be gross

Named my eldest after a hurricane, Hurricane David...caused some uproar among the inlaws, though.
To: Wneighbor
Yah, that's what I'll tell my son, Inagaddavida...
To: JenB; Wneighbor
You're doin' just fine Jen.
Just don't feel hurt when none of us wants you on our Trivial Pursuit team (unless it's the LOTR version!)
To: Ramius
Yah, that's what I'll tell my son, Inagaddavida...Okay... whatever floats your boat darlin'! Sounds good to me.

Now that is a name for the kid, no confusing that name, that is an awesome song!!!
To: Corin Stormhands
Heh, but I'll do really well in anything that isn't pop culture, or sports!
One day at Entmoot, Rosie and her sibs and I were looking for a game to play... we ruled out Trivial Pursuit for exactly that reason!

True story. Wife has a cousin who named her daughter "Summer Breeze."
I had a welfare client who named her daughter "Shana Nan."
I am not making this up.
