Kerry's Vietnam war buddy on NBC's Today right now.
NBC Today Program | 01/22/04 | Self

Katie Couric is interviewing a man named Jim Rassman on the Today show right now. Jim Rassman is a Vitenam War veteran who credits John Kerry with saving his life in combat.

During this interview, he admits that he was contacted by Kerry campaign workers and asked to appear in Iowa to promote John Kerry.

I was amazed that Kerry would use this man for his own political agenda. Furthermore, one must wonder...how is this so newsworthy that an appearance on the Today show is warranted?

Caught a clip of Terry McAwful on Fox News last evening. McAwful really hyped up Kerry on his war record and blasted President Bush as being a light weight during the Vietnam war. How ironic is it that when McAwful's buddy, Bill Clinton, was running for President, Clinton's military "record" was never an issue and in fact, the Democrats defended Clinton on his anti-war stance. Typical democrats.....twists and turns...

Because the media will do almost anything to get a liberal elected...particularly one like John F. Kerry, who is their poster child as regards Vietnam and the liberal agenda. I mean, here's a decorated combat veteran who came home and turned four-square against the war, took up with a bunch of marxists protesting the war and went on to political office.

They will drool over this guy and try to pull whatever rabbits out of the hat to get him elected.

Never mind that he (in effect) gave aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war, or that he has been pushing an unconstitutional agenda for 30 years. That's what they (the major media) want too.

Of course, you know the answer to your own question.

Katie & Co. will do ANYTHING to defeat Bush.

Did he really admit that? Because he was interviewed in Iowa and said he made the call to Kerry and Kerry stood their and told the same story.

Two effin liars

How is it warranted?

Easy. Having limited our right of political speech through campaign finance reform, the left have increased the importance of their allies in the media.

Look for a lot more of these "puff" pieces, which will be nothing more than free campaign advertising, as the campaign heats up.

Yes, and with a strong sense of conviction, tossed some other guys medals over the White House fence, not his own. What a phony.

Holy moly!! Really? I thought I read that this guy claimed he had done this all on his own. That no-one from the kerry campaign had contacted him. That this was all done on Rassman's part. If that's true, is this guy now admitting he LIED? And why didn't the Kerry campaign correct the info Rassman was giving out? Sounds like someone got wise, and this is a pre-emptive strike to attempt to correct the record.

Too late!

It's easy to see everything as bias, but I recall seeing interviews of Bush Sr.s crew [whose lives he saved] during elections past. If the many had a good record in Vietnam, great. I am glad Kerry saved the life of a fellow American. I just wish he wasn't a liberal who wants to raise my taxes and pander to the U.N.

Did they ask Mr. Rassman if he'd ever seen this book?

I assume Katie conducted the interview on her knees in a supplicant position while offering to pleasure him if only he can help Kerry win the nomination to save "her" country from the evil of George Bush!!!

Maybe they did the Today interview so that they could get the news of the lie out in a friendly venue. Which makes Couric et al. guilty of aiding and abetting Kerry's campaign. Quell surpise.

I wish the media would just stay out of the business of forming opinion and be objective. If they had had their way a looney toon would have inherited the Patriot Act and an arsenal of nuclear weapons.

The Viet Nam time was complex. Kerry served...we all know that until the draft got a numbered system Yalies didn't have to do that, and Kerry is old enough to not have to have worried about that. So, back then he did something brave.

It's complex. But you know what? I'm not going to question the service or reactions of anyone who actually spent time in a war zone.

I didn't like dissing McCain's service and POW time, either, for the record. If nothing else, it's not helpful in giving the military the respect it needs to remain the fine volunteer orgainization it is, where our very best will risk their lives so a bunch of spoiled brats can party on.

(Kind of like Dean in Aspen)

From what little I've followed of this story, I gather Kerry has acted surprised when he sees the guy "just appear" at his rallies, and it was said before that it turned out the guy was contacted by the campaign.

The Today Show airs in a little bit here and I'll try to remember to switch over and catch this. Thanks for the heads up.
