January 14, 2004 -- DENVER, Colo. - Kobe Bryant's accuser allegedly suffers from bipolar disorder - and may have been in such a "manic state" at the time of the reputed attack that it boosted her sex drive and willingness to bed someone, the defense is charging. The basketball star's legal team, in court papers released yesterday, quotes John Ray Strickland, one of the accuser's ex-love as saying she is bipolar.

Are you ignorant of the issues in the Juanita Broaddrick case ?
It would be relevant if the only indication there might have been rape is some signs of rough sex --- how can you possibly know whether the bruises are from one of the 50 or the accused? I think there is already a problem with the semen/DNA evidence in this case --- apparently it wasn't Kobe's.
Of course, then why she would say "no" at all at any time during the incident doesn't make any sense, but I'm sure the defense will find some docs who will say she "cycled out" during the act itself. Far be it that the guy went too far, she resisted, and a rape occurred anyway. So nice and simple, it explains anything away, she was cooked the minute she entered the room because, well, she's just sick and just liable to do anything and how was poor Kobe to know?
This whole line of defense is clever and the defense must think it won the lottery, turning it all around to make Kobe the victim instead of her, a very pat conclusion. Unfortunately for the defense, he could have raped her regardless, but this does cloud the issues and make it a little more difficult to prove if he did it.
Ah. Thanks for the explanation. I have some familiarity with bi-polar's for example I am aware that they often go off their med's because they enjoy the "manic" portion of their cycle. She seems to have many of the symptoms of bi-polar disorder (if you believe the reporting) including, increased sexual drive, poor judgement, abuse of drugs and alcohol, depression, suicide attempts, etc.
Of course without access to her medical records one can only speculate as to her true diagnosis.
The seroquel issue was expertly explained in an earlier post on this thread. Seroquel is being used for rapid cyclers and others non-responsive to other meds. It amazes me that people will go to a website and say this drug treats this and not that so they can't be bipolar... or... if they were bipolar they would be on lithium. Psychiatry is far from an exact science so medications will vary from patient to patient, diagnosis to diagnosis.
Left untreated, bipolar will take your life. Hysteria and promiscuity, poor judgement are factors mentioned in this thread that do, indeed, lend credence to the defense's case. My feeling all along has been a case of promiscuous sex (by both parties) that went awry. One party wanted more, one party didn't. Where do you draw the line?
Bipolar is very serious, and I believe it will be the next new and upcoming diagnosis for psychiatric patients and we will see more and more kids with this diagnosis. Again, a feeling. Trendy, you know...
Being crazy doesn't justify being raped. Changing your mind in the middle of a sexual act would be a difficult burden of proof for her. If she's smart, she will take her meds from now on...
Best to ya' BooAnn
Well, then, why don't we all just ignore it and send him right to jail, okay?
Geez, trying to excuse any motive SHE might have certainly doesn't ring true to your "I'm waiting to see" rationale.
See, there you go again. She had a "motive"? I thought she was off her meds and delusional?
Try as you might, you won't acquit him based on driblets of information, wrenched out of context, about her medical history, as you obviously would like. The facts will out, whatever they are, and we will see them at trial.
Do you have money on the Lakers or something?
No, and a comparison of the two seems very silly to me. Juanita wasn't out boinking other guys within hours of the (in this case alleged) rape. I find it very difficult to believe any normal woman would.
Don't you?
Of that there is no doubt; but the women that misuse it are making a mockery of those women, IMO.
Which, btw, is EXACTLY what I told the Domestic Violeance "diva" who stood next to me with I was having a little discussion with his soon-to-be ex-wife....LOL......I told her she should be ashamed of herself for using a law that helps really abused women to help THAT WOMAN get revenge on a man who doesn't want to live with her anymore! Shortly after that, I decided it was best I leave the general vicinity, lest I spend the night in jail from losing my temper again!
What did you say?
She was raped. He did it.
