In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

arrogate \AIR-uh-gayt\,verb:
arrogating, arrogates, arrogated; transitive verb
arrogative; adjective
arrogatively; adverb
arrogation, arrogator; noun

1. To claim or seize without right or justification; to appropriate.
2. To ascribe on behalf of another in an unwarranted manner.
3. To assume, or claim as one's own, unduly, proudly, or presumptuously; to make undue claims to, from vanity or baseless pretensions to right or merit

The most sinister dimension of this form of 'terror' was that it became an intrinsic component of Fascist and Nazi governance, executed at the behest of, and in complete subservience to, the ruling political party of the land -- which had arrogated to itself complete, total control of the country and its people.
--Bruce Hoffman, Inside Terrorism

Etymology [Latin arrog re, arrog t- : ad-, ad- + rog re, to ask; see reg- in Indo-European Roots.]

"...give DC to maryland,... and it would not add anything..."

Give DC to anywhere, and it would not add anything!

. i guess he reamed the teapot last night for claiming to be all about race issues, but not having any blacks/browns in his cabinet in his LONG tenure as VT gov

Well, in Doctor Deans defense, there are none in his ENTIRE State.

well i see what you mean, but VA doesn't need DC to make the NoVA libs that much more powerful in an otherwise fairly conservative state. better that MD take them.

That's why we gave it to Congress, one look at the budget tells you they cant add anything either.

Maybe we should transport the UN there, and call it a Nuclear Free Zone. With the DC beltway, it's already been circled on the map...

Sharpton arrogated the race issue in the last debate while maintaining his position as the biggest racist of them all.

John Fund exposes Paul O'Neill as an out-of-touch Crybaby, trying to arrogate the Moral High Ground, since history has shown the irrelevance of his opinions.

"...Sharpton arrogated the race issue..."

Nine of them, Right?
Anyone else remember the Dean Martin roast when it was said about Nipsy Russell...

Nipsy ... What kind of name is that?
It sounds like one of the Seven Dwarves that nobody wants to mention...

Sneezy, Dopey, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Grumpy, Doc, Nipsy (Russell), and Slappy (White.)

I know, I don't want to forget Clark. No, wait, I do...

Morning!

The 'rat campaign circus continues
With Dean still on the center stage
Loosing his cool with the audience
Then snarling at Sharpton in a rage

He's arrogated the nomination
Kerry whines this morning on Fox
But he's still as clueless as ever
And dumber than a box of rocks
