We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!
Good morning!!
Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
Moveon.org had been running a contest for its members to produce a 30-second ad spot that opposed the current president. Recently the site had been criticized for this effort as members produced ads that suggested a relationship between President Bush's leadership and that of Adolf Hitler. Now the winning ad has been chosen, and moveon.org has chosen its place in history. The winning ad is yet another "Bush is Hitler" type spot.
Gov. Dean has decided it is time he is no longer the candidate who is willing to speak his mind. In a move reminiscint of that great reinventor, Algore, Gov. Dean has decided to remake his image, and has now told the press that he is no longer going to be as available as he was. Polls show his lead over Gen. Clark shrinking dramatically in the last month. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Three possible cases of SARS have been reported in Hong Kong.
The IMF has weighed in on the US budget deficit, saying that it will hurt the world's economy by driving up international rates of interest.
Unusually warm weather in the Washington, DC, area is often responsible for the growth of many rather strange species during those periods. The recent episode of above average temperatures was no exception--the species globulus warmicus made an appearance. The species is noted for a dogmatic adherence to the as yet unproven theory the Earth is in a warming environment because of the activities of mankind. The latest sighting of the species was coupled with their claim that global warming will be responsible for the elimination of 25% of the world's species of plants and animals over the next few decades.
And, finally, in the "I can't possibly make this stuff up folks" category, in West Bend, WI, a man claims cable TV caused him to be addicted to TV, his wife to be overweight, and his kids to be lazy. He intends to sue the local cable TV company, saying his addiction resulted from getting four years of free cable TV--which occurred after he tried to cancel his cable subscription. Timothy Dumouchel stated: "I believe that the reason I smoke and drink every day and my wife is overweight is because we watched TV every day for the last four years." In response to the threat of a lawsuit, the cable TV outlet responded by saying: "Even though we consider our services to be a very powerful entertainment product, I dont think its reached a medical level yet where it could be proved to be addictive."
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
The IMF has weighed in on the US budget deficit, saying that it will hurt the world's economy by driving up international rates of interest. The worst possible news would be if the IMF announced that the U.S. economy is in great shape. The opposite would follow straight away. Works every time. Anyway, the key word here is "international" interest rates, not U.S. rates. The Fed again didn't raise the rates, and the dollar went lower. If everyone's buying Euros, they're gonna want a return on 'em somehow, right? Right. So who's interest rates, exactly, are we worried about?
Meanwhile, China and Japan are hoarding dollars. Why would they, when the dollar is falling? Either they don't think it'll fall (it will if they unload 'em), or they're financing their own exports to the U.S. while at the same time assuring that their own currencies stay low (especially China).
It ain't rocket science. It's economics. And that ain't a science. If anything, and above all, economics is politics. Especially at the IMF.
Elsewhere, after seeing these lawsuits you guys have mentioned, I did a google news search for "sues" and cataloged a few of the fun results on my blog (I included, bevlar, that lawsuit against the President). It's pathetic.
A PLUG: I'm scheduled to interview Gephardt tonight at 6:30 on IPTV. It's part of our series of interviews with candidates and political leaders this week and next.Shameless self-promotion... **BUMP**!!
Go I.G.!
How's your back? Do you have it propped?
I believe that President Bush feels that the President should lead the nation but not impose his own beliefs on others. I find myself wondering if he is bringing up such issues as immigration and Social Security reform, previously thought to be untouchable, to get dialog started. Though we here are aware of these issues, most Americans aren't. By bringing them to the front page of the papers, the President can perhaps get people thinking about them .... sorting out their feelings and formulating their positions.
He keeps emphasizing that it is Congress that shall have the say .... will shape the laws. In a perfect world, Congress is responsive to the people.
I wonder if he is trying to nudge the country back in that direction, though it's definitely a Herculean task.
Is this line of thinking completely weird and off on a tangent? Am honestly seeking the opinions of all of you.
On a whole 'nother subject. Will the Mars lander find enough critters to comprise a jury for the Scott Peterson trial? I'm figuring that's the only place that won't have been tainted by the publicity.

Well, Yes. The new law will have to go thru Congress before it hits the President's desk. However, I don't believe our President will sign whatever they send him. He knows what he wants in that bill and he will have some heavy hitters over at the Capitol pounding on Congresscritters in hopes of getting support for GW's proposal.
Back to the kitchen
I haven't decided what to cook for supper tonight. I have bread working, but no inspiration for supper yet. Since Trill will be late tonight, I've got plenty of time.
