Huh? Pickled herring off a toothpick? That's no pickled herring, that's a Holiday Inn out of a can gourmet buffet item! Google 'pickle herring recipe' to see that pickled herring is actually an ethnic minority in the final mix.

In the Carolinas, my family has always had pork roast, sweet potatoes, blackeyed peas (or Hopping John), collard greens and cornbread! Happy New Year to All!!

Have you ever rolled your own? Tamales, I mean.
I got a 'kit' to make a dozen at home, and I made them last night.
I filled them with chicken, poblano peppers I roasted, and queso blanco.
YUM!

Pork done German style in some way. Of course sauerkraut. I'd heard that kraut is a cure for a hangover.

I know. I've had it homemade and it is an, ahem, acquired taste, IMO.

Have to check whether I have good ole cider vinager or just that yuppie stuff. Got luziana hot sauce. yum.

acquired taste I know. I took it (homemade pickled herring) once or twice to an office potluck party. The second time with full knowledge that I'd end up with most of it myself at the end.

Funny, our family serves black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes pork roast and sauerkraut, warm apple sauce with Cinnamon, several different types of holiday specialty breads, pumpkin pie, and then the appropriate age discriminating beverage. It was that way when I was a little and ever since I started a family of my own in 1969 it's been that way.

We have a Dukes Mixture: sausage, sauerkraut with apples from Ohio; black-eyed peas and tamales from Texas.

What happened? I lost FR for a minute.
We buy ours from a lady at work. Usually 10 dozen. What is left over we steam at New Years. I like the chicken also but beans are a favorite of mine too.

I'm serving barbqued sausage, black eye peas with big chunks of ham, yams with brown surgar and butter, corn bread and little green onions.
To: CindyDawg
