~The Dragon Flies' Lair VI ~

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

(A cautionary tale)

As everyone knows, Santa is a jolly fellow, as good-natured as the day is long, but - unlike his little elf helpers - he IS human, and he does have his limits.

One particular Christmas season a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip, but there were problems everywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones, so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mother was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More stress. Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked, and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.

So a frustrated Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa trudged to the door. He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said, very cheerfully: "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?"

Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Inflatable doll stories! (I have a dozzie, but we'll wait on that a while!)

Christmas Together

What does one say to food like unto the Gods themselves,
ambrosia, succulent feasts, drawn from human dreams.
Blending with comradeship, and laugher, and easy smiles,
adding the spice of life to already overladen tastebuds.
Paper bound surprises and wondrous discoveries,
amid a pile of paper floating to the floor in happy mindless litter.
Renewed and renewing, and offering unexpected paths to explore,
friendships and relationships sharpen and mature like a fine wine.
Finally time comes to say adieu, surprising hard, yet it must be,
if only to add the dimension of distance to sweeten the next meeting.

Time warp, or just time fracture, who knows.
All I know is that I fell through it.

MY PROMISE

I promise you dear soldier
to remember what you've done
all the scarifies you have made
in battles lost and won.

I promise you dear soldier
that you will not have fought in vain
even when the years have come and gone
and only your tombstone does remain

I promise you dear soldier
a poppy I will wear
to show the world I'm proud of you
and that I will always care

I promise you dear soldier
to teach my children well
so that they will always remember
and to their children the stories tell

To you I make this promise
an oath straight from my heart
to never, ever forget you
and that in my life you have a part.

Lest that we forget
the terror that is war
and all that has been given
by those who fought before

Maria Sutherland
