The driver of the car was found last night....a teen age girl who told her mother she "thought she had hit something."

Prayers for you, and for all who were involved.

"Thought she had hit something" is amazing. I'm already on my girl child (whom I've sometimes addressed as "She who wants to be driving in a couple of years) on rule 1 of driving: "NEVER hit a human. If there's going to be an accident, God forbid, hit anything else (though I would also perfer, within reason, that you avoid the rest of God's creatures too), but NEVER hit a human."

She had more than a little angst, but understood her role in all of this, and thus her responsibility, when we had an exchange of questions on "Rule 1" surrounding how far that would go. She wanted to know if there were "exceptions" for "NEVER" - I said, simply, "no; never is absolute." On more elaboration--which included a legal lesson tailored for a 14-year-old that pointed out the courts will not care whehter it was an "accident," if human injury was involved--she also came to understand that means it's her responsibility to give up all to protect the pedestrian.

The girl involved in this accident obviously didn't have that sense of responsibility or learn that lesson.

Now she had better pray, and hope the prayers of others are answered; if the husband with critical injuries doesn't survive, then she will have a legal nightmare--death occurring as the result of felonious activity, to wit: hit and run.

To me, it's obvious the girl is scared, possibly of her parents reaction, what with her variation on "it's only a scratch" view of the whole affair.

She should be scared of the legal system. Her nightmare has only just begun.

Yes, you are right. I just got a call from the police department. They are to call me back in a minute and tape my deposition for presentation to the prosecutor's office.

Thanks for the b.d wishes Chairman, MozartLover and Redleg Duke.

MozartLover, we have 2 performances down, 1 to go, tomorrow. Plus I've got all the church music still. Tonight we have big rehearsal with orchestra. I hope it's a good one. We were shakey on Sun.

Yes, when I got my driver's license we were in a subdivision with lots of little children running around. Boy did my father drum into me the need to be careful and vigilant....ALWAYS!

#54...Her nightmare may have just begun, but you can be asssured her parents realize the full extent of this and will pay accordingly.

Almost 7 years ago, my son thought he had the right of way, and pulled out in front of a BIG Chevy truck...

..the truck hit him, totaling our car.

My son was a hairsbreath away from being struck on the drivers side....

..the man claimed injury, but we think not....he was on his cell phone to the lawyer when my sil (who was behind my son) got to his truck to see if he was OK.

OUR insurance company maxed out saving our hide....

...the guy in the truck got thousands ....(he already lived in an ultra-megabucks community with homes in the 300,000 dollar range)....

I truly think he was not hurt.....he actually hit our car with son in it.

But he got the bucks bigtime.

I can only imagine what this will cost those parents....as there is actual and tremendous injury...(& who can blame the injured couple if they did sue!!)

I seem to recall, an episode, promulgated into the mainstream, by Democrat Party political operatives (read liberal media hacks) concerning an incident involving Laura Bush, when she was a teen, and had a horrific traffic accident.

Somehow, that episode, was brought into the public forum, in order to disrupt the campaign of George Bush, as he was running for president. Likely the circumstances of the 2 unrelated incidents (last night, and some 40 years ago) were not similar. LTSOAA, and all that, but they (Dems) still tried to make it an issue. That is what Democrats do when it is not involving their own. They minimize facts as they please, and overblow certain issues, when it suits them. This is the new definition of objective journalism. Whatever they think, is what is so!

You know their dismissing of the seriousness of one of their own drunken married Senators on a lonely remote road late at night with a single girl, abandoned in the darkness, of a disabled, water laden vehicle, after said girl being impeded by a few doses of alcoholic beverages under the auspices of that powerful politician, related to an American icon of incredible stature, could not escape, and save her own life. That was nothing!

I know nothing of that poor Indiana girl (from last nights incident) who's life is not likely to be a coveted thing by many. Yet still, there is always the possibilty of redemption. My God, I could have slammed into a snow shoveler or Pedestrian myself just a few short days ago. I was simply a dust mote, trapped in a gale wind, and forces of nature and physics, for an instant, or so it seems.

I grieve for the victims, and I feel bad for the parents of that reckless driver. That young girl, is about to become aware of the harsh reality, of her having to own up to her responsibilties, and the price that should be paid, for her recklessness. Driving, is a serious privilage, which requires, awesome responsibility, and cognizance of the surroundings. Good driving is something that is simply not being taught in American Driving Schools. I have been around a bit. I know, because, I see a lot of problems. and I work in the Transportation, and Physical Distribution Industry. The DOT, has a lot of problems to contend with, and bad driving, is more endemic than most would be willing to readily acknowledge.

I drove big rigs in Europe for years. I have watched drivers for years. Americans are not very good at driving generally speaking. The Germans are much better at it. That is in my view, because, they mostly adhere to the rules of the road. Some cynics might suggest that Germans drive on the Autobahns without the restriction of speed limits, and so rules do not exist there. That would be a silly argument. The speed limits in Germany are a serious concern. That would be a cynical outlook indeed. The Autobahn, is just a part of the road sytem over there. Germans, obey traffic rules, universally, in my experience. The driving rules there, are adhered to closely, by most.

Americans, simply do not obey traffic laws. The advent of the cell phone, has greatly contributed to the poor driving in this country.

Anyhow, this episode of reckless driving, and a fleeing from responsibility, is all around, a sad thing! I feel terrible about the entire matter.
