How Hypocritical Christians are Good for America – a counterpoint to a Leftist

In their own minds, typical leftists are moral, but typically they are also very illogical. And they hate hypocrites, especially Christian hypocrites. Why? Because they are hypocrites themselves, but have to direct their hate outward to offset the feeling – and you have to use an American 100 dollar bill to help you prove the point.

In other countries, the US100 note is so seriously accepted that the US Government is now on its 3rd overhaul of the note to lessen the ability it can be counterfeited. You rarely hear anyone say that it’s great that so many are attempting to make fake US money. But, it is quite true – thank goodness so many are trying to cheat us. I am not saying at all that I approve of the behavior – but given it will always be present, I’m glad it’s us that suffer it.

It would be a very, very bad sign if, say, Canadian dollars were the ones that were experiencing all this trouble, and our money was ignored. No, our money stands for something, something so firm that many, many people create fake money just so they leverage what our money stands for.

Christian hypocrites, oh thank God we have them! That so many exist is an excellent sign, and reason for great hope. In Europe, not many of these folks exist, but they’re here by the bushel!! For clearly, if Christ weren’t representing something of intense value in our USA, so many would not spend so much time and energy appearing to be Christians.

To a leftist on the other hand, simply say this: do you use paper American money? If so, you are logically inconsistent. Just because people out there are cheating and imitating US money, that fact doesn’t stop you from using it. But, when you meet a Christian hypocrite, you take that as evidence real Christianity must be rejected, instead of drawing at least the opposite inference….that there might be something to all the God and Jesus stuff.

So, thank God for our Christian counterfeits. I pray we get more of them, and that more of them take the next step to authenticity.

funny thing is, hypocracy is simply a negative term for a duplicitous mind. but seeing as Jesus taugh us that Love is what we need, and that all we need is Him to get to Heaven, he also preached the most about.... MONEY! that's right, the end-all of materialism. He not only preaches about its vice, but also about how to manage it and take care of it. you see, Jesus (and God, duh) knew that although one point of life doesnt always work with another point, we have to live with both aspects. now, i dont like it when people proclaim to be Christian then kill in cold blood, but how often is that the case? the KKK is an example, sure, but how many consider them true Christians?

now, it seems to me that you in your statement dislike hypocritical Christians, but i ask of you, why does it bother you so much that they are fake? Christians never claim to be perfect, only forgiven.

I suppose it's because they deny their fakery as they try to convince others how noble it is.

how easy it must be to come up with a one-liner and not have to deal with things like complex thought and searching for answers. by the lack of effort, i guess you have it right. if you dont look into things, its hard to admit someone may be right, so why not say everybody is wrong. (oops, i got a little sarcasm on my desk, sorry it must be dripping)

Hey, one-liners are the hardest of all. To pack all you need into few enough words that attention spans don't expire before getting the point across, and maybe even provoking a response in the process, takes work.

Thanks for the link - sounds a lot like what I was trying to say, but much better written.

So far, I would have to admit that telling illogical people, even using the money metaphor up above in my note, that they are not consistent in their reasoning doesn't usually have any impact.

But my post above, and the article you linked me to do have something in common: a lack of an explanation about why liberal leftists are comfortable with the illogical life they lead.

The answer, another essay I hope to write, is that secular humanism, like Christianity, is a faith system. Both can be defended "logically", and, to us Christians, our logic is consistent, theirs inconsistent. To them, though, the rules of logic are not shared.

I can say this pretty easily, because I had to suspend my "reason" to move beyond my biases against Christianity, so they I could hear that quiet voice of Him. It was about the hardest thing I have ever done - simply because I didn't know how.
Thanks again.

It's not my attention span I write for, although it, too, gets shorter as time goes by.

The standard belief is that anyone who does something that they recommend others not do is a hypocrite. I don't believe this is necessarily true. It is very possible to do bad things yourself out of human weakness, while recognizing that your actions are wrong and encouraging others not to do similar things.

Now, if you deny that you yourself are prone to such failings and/or are contemptuous of others who do similar things when they get caught, then you are indeed a hypocrite.

Christian are sinners like everyone else. Hypocrites? I think we suffer from pride like anyone else?

To me the real hypocrites are the likes of Enron executives attending Church right after being busted. As though that fools intellegent people. It makes me sick when corporate criminals all of sudden act redeemed. It would be better if they just faded away. Clinton heading to Church as to top it off.

But hypocrisy is not monopolized by Christians. It is a blanket criticism no one can defend. Sort of like being called a liar. Uh yeah. We are all liars. So what?

When Christians condemn homosexuality we are hypocrites? Take your dispute to God. That's a twist. Those in society who suggest we should have values are the bad ones?
