PLEASE, if what impels you is a burning need to tell us all how trivial you see this as being, from your lofty perch, or how uninterested you are in (or how contemptible you find) the Lord of the Rings movies... take your gay and festive person elsewhere, start your own thread, and see who wants to join in the laughter and frolic. Thanks.

Dan

Having recently spent 13 hours on a trans-Pacific flight wedged into a tiny seat with a sleeping kid sprawled over me and carry-on luggage claiming most of the foot room ...

... I think you will rise to the occasion easily.:)

Flex your legs a fair bit while you sit. Don't want any blood clots forming. Be sure to walk around at intermission.

I envy you terribly.

I wish I had your problem. I don't even know how I'm going to procure tickets to ROTK, considering how other people are willing to fight and kill to get them. I have a regular job and regular household responsibilities, plus young kids, and can't spend whole days camping out in line. [whine!] I'm probably going to have to wait until JANUARY to see the movie of the century. The very trailer made me writhe around with excitement. (Saw it the other night before watching Master and Commander for the second time--also a wonderful movie though not in the same league as LOTR.)

Take a lot of lembas! :-)

For me and mine, a DVD and a flagon of ale awaits in the future...

Take sandwiches and sodas. That's what helped most when I sat through a 12 hour showing of all the Planet of the Apes movies back to back to back to back to back. . . .
Here's something that might encourage you -- The first movie seemed 2 hours long, the next one one hour, and the rest flew by. Hopefully after the first couple of hours you'll find that the rest pass very quickly.

Catheters and urinary drain bags might be good item to sell in front of movie theaters on that day. LOL!

I would take some aspirin with me. Take two as the first movie starts, then midway between the showing, take another two. Try to get up and move around during the short intermission (if any) between films. Blood clots and all. As for your a$$, you are probably going to want to shift around a bit, and yes, I would try a not too fluffy pillow.

Is it ok to rag on you for posting this in News instead of Chat? What's the over/under for # of posts before one of the mods moves this thread to chat?

btw, where is this theatrical release of both extended editions and preview of ROTK? How did you score tickets?

If I were you, I would make sure you've been taking your B vitamins, as B vitamin deficiencies can make back pain or spasms worse. Also, I would probably just assume there will be pain and begin taking aspirin at showtime and every four hours.

I'm taking a 1 liter bottle of water and a couple of packs of peanutbutter crackers for the first 2 movie and Subway is giving us a free sub for the break around 5pm. Then, another 1 liter bottle of water for the rest of the evening.

No popcorn + no soda = no potty breaks

Have learned some yoga exercises that I can do sitting in the chair to prevent cramps/bloodclots/soreness.

Looking forward to it, but realizing it will be physically demanding and preparing for that aspect. (Seat near aisle will have people walking over you, but will also allow for quick exit and re-entry if said potty break is needed.)

NO coffee before. (If in the evening no beer, which is more of a sacrifice for some than others). Stretch out first (seriously).

And remember - peeing on one's neighbor is very rude, so practice it in moderation.

So, how early do you recommend lining up for The Return of the King, midnight showing?

Personally, I'm cutting off all liquids at midnite on Monday.

Seriesly, I'm not too worried about sitting there. The theater we're going to is fairly comfortable (stadium seating).

I think I'll be pumped enough that I won't notice any discomfort.

I am not going, but I will be watching the other two at home before going! I am a little envious! and also feel a little lucky that I don't have to be in the whole theater 12 hours! - Can I post on the thread?

I qualify under category #1 as someone who had to sit for over 24 hours on a train from NYC to Albany that was stuck in the snow. My advice (which you won't take): Don't do it.

I decided a while back that I would view FoTR and TTT Extended DVDs in the comfort of my own home, and then go to the theater.

When RoTK Extended DVD comes out, the real fun will begin. That might just tip me over into getting a wide-screen TV with a decent sound system. (Or wait a minute, how about having the party at my brother's house, who is a bachelor film buff with all the neat stuff?) That way, we can take a break at the end of each disk, eat our meals, have comfortable seats, not have our shoes stick to the floor, not have the girl next to us keep asking, "Who is that elf again?" (Wait a minute, if my wife comes, I will have that last part anyway.)

Seriously folks, and you heard it here first, as more people get fancy home theater equipment, and commercial theaters get smaller and more annoying due to rude people, watching at home is going to be "in" and going to the theater "out". First-run films will be pay-per-view over digital cable or satellite, and people will host parties for long-anticipated movies like RoTK or even the more average but good ones.
