The smell from nearby Gary provided good cover for this.

Q: What's worse than a pile
of forty-nine poor dead cats?
A: The one living cat
stuck under the pile
trying to claw its way out...
(Yes, dead cat jokes rule!)

Officers wearing oxygen tanks to protect themselves from the stench removed 49 dead cats from a garage where they had died while waiting for a woman to find them new homes, authorities said. That only puts her at #2 on the list in the county. Widower Belle Gunness is believed to have murdered over 50 people in LaPorte County in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

The Associated Press was unable to contact Shotsberger for comment Tuesday because there was no number under her name in published listings for Michigan City. I love the incredible effort that the Associated Press goes through to contact the story's subject.

Some of the cages in Kathy Shotsberger's garage belonged to officials in Jasper County who had given the woman "dogs and cats" under the belief she would find new owners for the animals..
Sounds like all the dogs she was given made it out of that hellhole. I guess she didn`t like dogs, so she kept all the cats. Cat people.......I will never understand them.

Somehow this story reminds me of the joke, what do you call a bus full of lawyers going off a cliff?....a good start!

I dreamt last night that my bedroom was populated with wild birds, and one domesticated parrot. My cat admonished me not to startle them, and I was taken aback only because I felt insulted that my cat assumed that it was I, and not the sight of a cat that would startle them. Go figure...

I recommend to sentence the woman the 'hell' she put those animals through...
