State-issued CCW's, reciprocity re: drivers' licences

I live in Georgia.
A lot of Yankees pass through my great State on their way to Florida.
Their home States do not respect Georgia-issued CCW permits, and can and do fine, impound the property of, and imprison upstanding Georgians who dare to cross their borders while packing heat.
A CCW is much like a drivers' licence, in that it certifies the bearer as being approved by his home state to own and operate a potentially dangerous piece of machinery in the course of his usual daily business. The several States have agreed to honor SDLs issued by other States.
This set of facts forces me to pause, and go "hrmn..."
I say Georgia should immediately cease respecting DRIVER'S LICENCES issued by such States, and immediately arrest those drivers and impound their cars, until such time as their States of residence choose to adopt a more enlightened and Constitutional attitude.

I really do want something closely hewing to this notion floated in one or more State Congresses. I do not expect that it'd have a hope of passing, but it's shock the socks off of the sheeple.
Please harrass your local congresscritters.
Thanks, KP

Back during the Mass. gay marriage flap, there was speculation on the news that if a gay couple from another state got married in Mass., and their home state refused to recognize the marriage, they could conceivably force that state to do so if the USSC ruled that the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution required the other 49 states to recognize it.
Since then I've been wondering if the same argument couldn't be made regarding CCWs.

not that I am aware of - and I made an abortive stab at it in early 2001. I was advised by Massachussetts State Police that I would be arrested at Logan Airport if I did as I desired to do.

Leftist really are so incautious about precedent, and it is time to pitch 'em into the pits they have digged.

Early in the advent of the CCW, Tennessee decided that it was not going to honor the Mississippi CCW permit in Tennessee because Ms doesn't require the classroom etc. that other states require. After several Tennesseans got jacked up with their CCW permits not being honored in Ms, Tennessee decided that Ms permits were ok. Then Ms honored Tennessee and all has been hunky dory since.
I like the idea, Southern states start jacking around Mass, NY, Conn, and NJ travelers. There are a helluva lot more Yankees traveling here in the South than there are Southerners traveling up there.

Firearms Owners Protection Act 1986
http://www.hardylaw.net/FOPA.html Interstate Transportation
Any state law or regulation prohibiting the transfer of a firearm in interstate commerce through the state "provided that the firearm is unloaded and not readily accessible"[123] would be rendered null and void.

yes, but it doesn't do me any good at all if the gun isn't allowed to be on my hip.
That's like approving the by-rail transport of private automobiles and calling it "honoring" a state-issued drivers' license.

Not a bad idea, you don't let us carry a gun in your state, we won't let you drive in ours. I like the idea and I am from Georgia.

interesting site.
thanks for the heads-up.
since you seem to know the site-owner, wanna do me a solid and float the notion past him?

This set of facts forces me to pause, and go "hrmn..."Sorta like CCW permits not being honored or recognized by certain businesses within a state.
Blockbuster comes to mind.
Those who are allowed can safely and legally carry a weapon anywhere but in their stores.
To me...that's a good enough reason to rent and shop at Hollywood Video.

oh, I draw the line at private property - a business has every right to set their own rules.
Of course, their rules might just cause me to take my long-green elsewhere, as you mentioned. :)

You're correct. I should have added that this is the only law that protects gun owners while traveling with their unloaded, inaccessible firearms.
There is no Federal Law that protects a licensed gunowner so he can carry concealed in a "Rights Denied" State.

There is no Federal Law that protects a licensed gunowner so he can carry concealed in a "Rights Denied" State. well, I'd say the Second Amendment fits THAT bill
*chuckle*
the trick will be in forcing those pompous windbags in Blue Country to admit to that self-evident truth.
Thus... my little notion.

Just think. All states honor drivers license. Most states do not have reciprocity for CCW. States are now on the verge of allowing illegals to acquire drivers licenses. The weapon of mass destruction of terrorists is the car bomb. Do I hear thunderous explosions coming our way or are we going to be picked of by pistols? What are the odds?
