Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 26, 2003

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

osculate \ohs*cue*late\, verb:
osculated, osculates, osculating; transitive, intransitive verb
osculation; noun
deosculate, deosculation; (fondly)
exosculate, exosculation; (vigorously)

1. To kiss..
2. Mathematics: To have three or more points coincident with.
3. To come together; contact.

A Plain Old Kiss
Some people need a peck or two;
For others a simple smooch will do;
Too many, a graze will stimulate;
A few may want to osculate.
And then, there are those who need a smack,
For flowery words they have a knack.
But all I want from you is bliss,
Which you can give me with a plain, old kiss!
- Arr. Ara John Movsesian

Etymology [Latin scul r , scul t-, from sculum, kiss, diminutive of s, mouth. See s- in Indo-European Roots.]

He didn't hold on to it because he knew that my grandfather wasn't supposed to have it and that I sure as hell wasn't supposed to either! Back then, he wasn't *nearly* as pro-gun as he is now, so he had no interest in it. Even as just an heirloom or just for show, it would have been kewl to have. :(

yes, i am sure dogwalking is quite lucrative there in that area. and a bit easier to do, since you could just go to one bldg and likely get an entire clientele. i paid a college student to come in and walk the JRT once a day, but she graduated, and moved away. and lucius, as a cavalier, doesn't have the high energy exercise requirements that the JRT did.

and they just called and my baby is waking up, and did fine with his surgery... : ) i am relieved!

No electric planer required for this mantel-just a big, peeled log with two notches. I'm not about to let him near my planer again! Off to lunch...

Well, I'm not much of a "dog person," but that's changing -- my new pal, Neil the dog walker, has promised that he's going to turn me into one. :)

Listen, Chick, xshub was bitten by dogs at least 2-3 times in his life and basically hates them with a passion. he never warmed to xspup. but then CJ, who IS a dog person, nearly had his family jewels snapped off by xspup, so that is understandable. However, xshub is rather warm towards xs2pup, although he would swear to you on a stack of bibles that that is not true. he has been seen once with him on the leash outside, and he has woken me up to tend to xs2pup who was fretting in his cage. he was extremely sympathetic to today's procedure, and asked whether the vet's ofc had visiting hours...there is definitely hope for you. xshub is/was a hard anti-dog case.

I see the South has no monopoly on Darwin candidates. You never hear about someone being injured while frying a turkey and following the instructions to the letter.
