Summer's Sigh

i turned
when i felt
an uncertain moment
at my back
a tentative stroke
of leaf and wind
has left me maddened
in September's too-long embrace

October's sylvan whispers
pray me, wait, do,
for the changing sameness
...and tells me something
important about November's
nessessities

regaining my pace
i move into the
last sulky, sodden
days of summer
and know,
and smile,
and know...

She, most welcome, will be here anon.

bedecked,
bemused,
and brilliant in her arrival,
she will appear
when it suits her wardrobe...
then will i slip under the silks
of the flaming golds,
passionate reds,
and crystalline blue chiffons--
like a child playing dress-up
i'll smile approvingly
at the transformation.

an artist's
easel
adorns
adores
the morning
of a dark corner
crowded by
a planed
oak grained
table insight
on gestures
just waiting
for expression
and explanation

Went to see "Hero" this week.
Extraordinarily beautiful photography.
Poetry in flowing motion.
Vivid, stark, unbelievable
gorgeous
myth living ...

we lie

but different

we are the truth
that turns the page
in the same way
revealing syllables
arranged in the symmetry
of our separate order
describing a text
but subsuming the story
to the shape we assume
between covers that enfold
the particulars of meaning
in indifferent arms
and embrace
a narrative similar,

macarthur's park
was intense
I think, but you
had to be there
and anyway I'm not
sure I remember.

Transfer

An empty stem
of crystal etched
with wreaths and
flowers whose
intricacies cast
shadows on the page
I left
un-translated

Patiently
waiting for the right
words to stop dancing
with the shades of meaning

upon our intricately
delicate communion that
was never meant
for a dry folio
nor more than the bowl
was designed simply
to transmit light
absent the gift of wine.

ardent pursuit
sometimes requires
delay to the notion of
timely arrivals
when the storms
of pain ascendent
demand less sail
and the charm of
the idea
that beckons
must be dismayed
to wistful waiting
as belayed destinations
await the proper winds
to unfurl.

patience is progress
unremarked.

my neighbor upstairs
has politely installed
wind chimes downstairs
next to my bedroom window
I suppose they are there
to comfort me
and ask my forgiveness
for her having dumped
kitty litter in my garden
several days in a row.

She serenades me with
cold tinkling tuneless chatter
to augment the matter
of her cats' bladder

Her wiccan bumper sticker
demands that I respect
her freedom of religion
I laugh
and sleep peacefully
in the full strength
of a stronger power
barely noticing the
cold expressions
of a joyless cacophony

My heart dreamed
love by light
in blue silhouette

desire was delusion
with a night soul

orange dragonflies
always camp
on my yellow lamp
still as
a grecian bronze
in a mediterranean
sunset

I change my pillowcase
every night
hoping for a new dream
but the satin leaves
no impression
on my cheeks,
I long for your
rough lines.
