Also, my daddy, about the same time as you in Korea, was cleaning up the Phillipines of Japs (a most unpolitical word nowdays, but proper then, I suppose) months after the War ended.

It was terrible yesterday, so I just gave up. And darn, I wanted to know of the wakes that people had attended. LOL

When you were in the army, did you ride on a train without seats and did you get an allowance for meals?

Why do you want to know about viewings and not funerals?

Rode alot of trains, but they all had seats of one kind or another.Got paid rations when I lived off base....

When the time comes I'll get cremated and then dumped at sea...No services or memorials, just disposed off...lol

Because I have my funeral planned. It is the wake that I need input and advice. Actually, I am trying to ascertain if anyone has ever been to a more informal wake than I have. And how can one request one without the funeral home directors coming unglued. LOL

Hmmm...I have demanded to be cremated also. I want the family to choose where to scatter my ashes. That will give them something to ponder. LOL

But, I want them to party first at the wake.

I've honestly never been to a wake I would recommend, but don't have any suggestions as to how to improve one.

I've been to some fairly decent and what I might call admirable funerals though.

Not a subject I've put a lot of thought to.

I thought wakes were held at the deseased home...Bar set up on the coffin etc....Or the ashes put in a place of honor and let the party begin...Don't think the funeral home has to be involved at all...JMHO...

We had a memorial service for my husband a week after he died. The Sheriff's Office helped with most of the arrangements - I was completely clueless what to do. They had use of a school auditorium and his friends spoke, my neice sang, bagpipes played Amazing Grace, and our former pastor gave an excellent eulogy. It was a very nice event with a large attendance. I don't remember it all, but I think Greg would have been pleased.... his relatives from out of town seemed content.

Oh, my Mother's funeral was beautiful. She was in the same Catholic church in which she was baptisted and confirmed. We, her four children, put the shroud over her coffin. A full choir sang. Her female grandchildren brought up the rememberances to the altar. Her male grandchildren were her coffin bearers. There is nothing like incense and "On Eagles Wings" to send a person to heaven.

But, she did not have a good Irish wake. I want one. LOL

Nully, my family and friends will roast me without an invitation to do so....unless you are talking of roasting marshmellows at my cremation. LOL

Westy, kisses....That is exactly what I want. I can just be embalmed and then be set in my own living room.

And let the party begin. Of course, I want a closed casket with a picture of my in my thirties on the coffin. LOL

My Mother was raise in an all Irish town and that is the impression I got from her growing up....Times are different now though...

Well, sharky person...I come from Irish and Cajun folks. How could there not be whiskey drinks at my wake...if I have it my way?

My fondest memory of leaving a job was when my boss, Anankara Rangappan, had a roast for me when I left Xerox.

I imagine leaving the job of life on this vail of tears would be best so honored. I want people to laugh and smile when they remember me...
