LOL - The trick is:, when something doesn't work - CALL THE REPAIRMAN!! Since I live with a Lawyer who only knows how to use a pen, I learned that one a long time ago. In fact, I'm more mechanical than he is. I fired my husband from all things mechanical when he worked half the day and night to put together the kids first swing set!! At about 1am he crawled into the house and I looked out the window and to my horror, one of the swings was upside down! It's true, ONLY a Lawyer could do that!

grrrr... I am sick of modern Americans painting Lincoln to be a racist by taking his words from his era and applying today's politically correct hypersensitivity to them.

His idolized Henry Clay, who held that 'I wish every slave in the United States was in the country of his ancestors.' To that end, Lincoln repeatedly expressed the opinion and desire to repatriate blacks from this continent, before the war; during the war to a group of blacks assembled at the White House; even to the end of the war in April 1865 when he conferred with Gen. Butler about their deportation to Panama. Lincoln was anti-slavery. He was also anti-black.

That is how you see his words and actions in retrospect, but what looks now to be racism was not the motive in his time.
America had been settled by people who wanted to be here, and who happened to be white, whose families emigrated from their homelands by choice. The black people in America were here by force, and it would have seemed unreasonable to expect they would be devoted patriots to this nation that was not their chosen place of residency. They were foreigners in spirit, and to deport them back home to Africa or to a new land they could claim as their own, away from their oppressers, was not an unkind notion, but a liberating one. Mere emancipation, the release from enslavement, was not really equivalent to freedom, whereas returning them back to their homes was a more complete liberation.
Perhaps in the days following legal slavery it would have been racist for white men to assume the blacks would even want to live among them. Why would that be their first choice?
If you and your family had been taken from here and enslaved in another land, would you consider yourself truly free if let go on that soil amidst great hostility, or would you prefer the choices to be returned home or delivered to a new land away from the people who had stolen your freedom?
