Pear Clafout

Preheat oven to 375 (degrees F)

Put 1 cup flour, 1 T. vanilla extract, 1/3 cup sugar, 3 large eggs, 1 cup milk and a 1/2 cup heavy cream in a large bowl and beat with a wire whisk.

Peel and slice 5 ripe pears. Fold the pear slices into the batter, carefully. Butter a 9 inch round baking dish and pour in the batter, making sure the pears are flattened down and evenly distributed. Bake for 40 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cut like a tart and serve warm with slightly thickened whipped cream or creme fraiche.

You can also make this with black cherries, apples and plums.

I've made this for childen and for governors, and they lap it up til they are stuffed. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family has.

That sounds great, but I will wait till the Green Onions are declared free of Hepatitis A before I try it.

Smooch

Gran, I love this time of year when Bess starts bustling about and grumbling and pulling out her stuff, for treats. LOL. She makes an OUT OF THIS WORLD smoked oyster pate, that she wraps in endive leaves. If you want, I'll see if I can get her to give you that one, later. She's gone, for now, on the phone to argue with the store guy over that turkey, again. He'd best just give it up and do whatever it is she wants. :)(Bless his heart, he's probably trying to do just that). :)

What green onions and hep.A.?

There have been Hepatitis A outbreaks all over the East, including down near you.
CDC says they are caused by contminated Green Onions comming in from Mexico.
CDC has banned import of green onions, but no one can be sure just where the ones in the store now came from.

Bess put the feather beds, down pillows, blankets and comforters on all the beds, last week, except mine. She did mine yesterday and it felt soooo good. I slept until past 10 today. :) She says I make an "unholy mess" of my bed. She fusses, but I just love to tunnel under those things. :)

I guess you can tell who is asking all the green onion questions. She must have bought some, recently. :)

It was caused by Mexicans in one area using nightsoil to fertilize them. The contamination is down between the layers I think, but I would be nervous of anything that hadn't bee seperated from them by a plastic bag or something.

Hi Bess.

I bet one of those little bottles of Devon Cream would be perfect on those pears.

After a few weeks, there won't be any more Mexican Green Onions in the country cause they will all have gone bad.
In the meantime, I am using a mixture of shallots and chives

Oh Precious, those pears are wonderful. They are very addictive, I promise. That's one of the things she makes that I keep asking her if they are ready, yet. :)

She says her onions and other things are wrapped in plastic and seperate, but she doesn't like it. She says her produce is supposed to be organic, but she doesn't trust the grocer, because he has "shifty" eyes.

(i swear she gets worse every year)

I deny having anything to do with the dimensional shuffle and the weather from it.
It's not my fault!
I swear!
