You'll be home for Christmas. Cool!
It's just gonna be me and the two youngest boys here. Grant is stationed nearby (3-4 hours drive) but he is scheduled for watch all week.

Checking in before heading back out to the hospital

There isn't much change with mom .. she is still hanging in there but there still is not much hope that she will improve.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers .. I'll try to check back later.

Nully, .38...you guys ok??????

It was Mr Toad's Wild Ride around here yesterday. We were without power for 13 hours....

Ozzie was in back wrapping a pressie for Moi for Christmas and my birthday ( the 29th) and I was in the kitchen. At first it sounded like 3 divisions of aircraft ( that would be 12 of em) flying low overhead but it continued far too long..or maybe the 3 garbage trucks dragracing down the street but it was not garbage day...then the house just shook. It was violent. But our building codes here are so strict and on the surface it looks like our house is ok..we have some checking to do.and it is raining here today.....

Amyway. just before the big one hit ( there had been several smaller ones felt in NO county, Taco just flew under the bed..I never saw that cat move so fast....Missie on the other hand just opened one eye as if to say " What is all the hubbub?" and went to sleep again...not going to upset that girl..( by the way she is doing pretty well despite the cancer..has a big knot but she eats,is thin but a cuddle bug). We ran outside and could not stand up. The mountain range here is said to be moved up by a foot at least.

Lets see...when the rolling stopped ( it was not gentle oh and the two women killed in Paso were not shoppers they worked at the Ann's Dress Shop) we checked inside the house. pictures all catywampus, things fell but the most amazing thing is that my 4 panel floor screen which weighs about 150 lbs ( I brought it back from Okinawa in 73..it was made in Hong Kong) was leaning against my delicate Korean table which was held in place by the Chinese Oriental run..it did not break but do have to check for small damge. Right now I have it folded and lying on the floor and it will stay there for at least a week..until the aftershock period is past.

After we sort of house proofed our house, as best one can in earthquake country) we packed up the truck with clothes, my jewlery, food, a few keepsakes ( meaning a picture or two) and camping gear just in case we had to get out of the house.

Here is the really dicy bit...I just got a new 2004 Toyota Sienna...had leather put on the seats..the installed did not do the back panels and there were a couple of areas I was not totally pleased about so the van with 300 miles on it ( I got it Nov 30) was being taken by trailor to Fresno so the Supervisor can look at the quality control aspect and repair the damages they did and finish the interior...my van was on the road about an hour's worth which would have put it near Paso about the time the quake hit. The driver called his company to say he was ok.. I hope my vas was ok too....the dealership said they heard from the company and nothing was said about the van so they assume all is ok..I hope they are right.

We got our power about 0100 this morning. I could not sleep well after this...Ozzie had not trouble. I had my watch cats in my lap..slept dressed to get out if I had to. They tell us we could have aftershocks up to a week following yesterday's event. Let's hope we have seen the end of it. By the way..the Hearst Castle which is in San Simone, withstood the 1906 quake, the Loma Prietta 6.7 quake and had next to no damage...it is open today. That is the building to be in during one of these wake up calls from God.

You were the one we were worried about CG. Nully, Lisa Anne Nd .38SW are all fine. None of them even noticed the shakeing, so it couldn't have been much around there.

I don't know about the rest of you, but knowing what Mo is going thru now.. and Westy not feeling well, and my age.. ahem..(kidding) it would be nice if some of us had each others home addresses and even phone numbers, etc.

Swerv, Lisa Anne and I just exchanged all of ours. Some of us don't even know each others first or last names.. Right now I would like to know Mo's last name and address just to send a card..

Do you all nowhatimean?

FROM THE DESK OF S. CLAUS

I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve the states of Georgia, Florida, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas on Christmas Eve. Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind. However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement, who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Joe Claus. His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us:

1. There is no danger of the Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Joe Claus because he has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads, "These toys insured by Smith and Wesson".

2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Joe Claus prefers that children leave an RC Cola and pork rinds [or a moon pie] on the fireplace. And Bubba Joe Claus doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff though, so please have an empty spit can handy.

3. Bubba Joe Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba Joe Claus' fireplace.

4. You won't hear, "On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen" when Bubba Joe Claus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, "On Earnhardt, Andretti, on Elliott and Petty

5. "Ho, Ho, Ho!" has been replaced by "Yee Haw!" You also are likely to hear Bubba Joe Claus' elves respond, "I her'd dat!"

6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Joe Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety triangle on the back with the words, "Back Off".

7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as "Miracle on 34th Street" and "It's a Wonderful Life" will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see "Boss Hogg Saves Christmas" and " Smokey and the Bandit IV" featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Joe Claus and dozens of state patrol cars crashing into each other. And Finally,

8. Bubba Joe Claus doesn't wear a belt. If I were you, I'd make sure your wife and kids turn the other way when he bends over to put presents under the tree.

Sincerely yours,
Santa

I am so glad to hear that you, the hubby and the kitties are all OK. I hope that none of the aftershocks are bad enough to drive you out of your home. As Swervie said, I didn't notice any shaking up here, although I did see that some folks in places like San Francisco and Walnut Creek felt some tremors.

Bubba Joe used to live down the hill. I had heard that he finally found a job.

With a few exceptions, Bubba Joe Claus almost sounds like he could be from Idaho (I grew up there and lived there until my mid-thirties). Funny stuff!

Interesting report CG - you'll make cuttnhorse jealous that he didn't have such a good earthquake this week. *L*
Glad you're okay - I guess if another one strikes, we'll find you in a closet at the Hearst Castle.
