If there's anything to these threats, you can bet that Homeland Security and every other federal and state agency is on the case. It would be interesting to decode the alQ messages here, but we might spend the time better praying and checking our survival gear. In particular, today and Monday would be good days to fill gas tanks and take cash out of the bank in case the electrical network goes down. Lots of cash. And to solidify family contingency plans in case of attack.

What a terrible way to live. I hope Bush & Co can oblilterate these snakes from the face of the Earth.

I suspect it is a key to pull off simultaneous attacks. Assuming DC and NYC are at 36 hours, with 25 hours indicating another location, it may indicate a third attack in the Phillipines or somewhere else in the far east. (i.e. a time zone 11 hours ahead of the US east coast.) The other way to look at it is from a GMT time zone difference. 36 hours - 25 hours is 11 hours...maybe synchronizing clocks...... OK, it is as possible as some of the other theories here....

By the way, I mentioned this discussion to my pastor at church this morning. I hadn't been in a long time, mostly due to the initial recovery from my surgery, and then the catch-up. It is filled with wonderful, and conservative, people, and we thanked and applauded the members and veterans of the military for putting their lives on the line to protect us and our freedom.

There is always a hugely important message for me when I feel compelled to go. I felt compelled to go today.

His lesson for today was Matthew 13:24-30, the parable of the wheat and the tare. The tare strewn in the field of wheat seeds were the work of evil, and he talked about the reality of evil, and the necessity of us to know of its reality. He also spoke about 9-11, and how we came face to face with the evil in this world.

And most importantly, the reason why the tare was not cut down before the harvest: because it would damage the good seed ... and because God has the ability, and the will, to turn the tare to good wheat. He asked how many people had "become the wheat" in their adult lives ... many ... and noted how awful it would have been for them to have been removed from the field before the harvest.

I could scarcely breathe when the subject of the lesson became apparent to me.

After the service, I spoke to the Pastor, who has had attacks on his own health in the past, and told him why I felt compelled to come. I also asked him to pray for my son and me as we travel next Friday night for a week (of course he will), and for him to pray for the safety of our country and our people ... and for the innocents around the world that evil would harm and destroy - AND for that harm and destruction to be thwarted and bound. I know that he will.

It means to "alert" someone to a thread by listing their name in the "To:" field of a post in that thread.

The recipient(s) will notice that they are being "paged" when they check their "My Comments" page (which lists all recent posts to/from them).

The word "ping" is adopted from the submarine sonar term of the same name, which means to emit a short "blip" of sonar signal as a probe in order to see if it echoes back from any object in the area. Since these sonar "pings" are easily audible, they are also sometimes used as a "I am here" announcement or "hello", since radio signals can't be used effectively.

Also inspired by the sonar usage is the computer network "ping" protocol, by which one machine on a network (including the internet) queries another machine on the network by sending a special data packet that in effect says, "reply if you get this". Thus "pinging" another computer on a network is used to determine if a specific computer is present on the network, and/or how good the network's response time is for round-trip data.

So sending a little "hey, come here if you see this" message on a Freeper thread is often called "pinging" because it's somewhat analogous to both the sonar and networking usages of the word.

As I understand it, Moslems believe that the Koran is the word of Allah as dictated to the prophet Mohamed. Moslems believe that the Koran cannot be changed, not even a single letter, because it is the direct word of Allah. The exception are those verses that were deemed early in the days of Islam to have been inspired by Satan (you'll see references to the Satanic verses) which were removed. Translations of the Koran are not considered to be translations but explanations in another language.

The Hadith are collections of stories about Mohamed, and what he said and did under certain circumstances. You'll see them referred to as the teachings of the prophet, or the teachings of Mohamed. They usually start out with something to the effect that so and so was sitting there and heard the prophet Mohamed say yadda yadda yadda.

Sharia (Islamic law) is based upon a combination of the Koran and the Hadith. The Koran is considered infallible. The Hadith is a step below the Koran, but is considered to be devinely inspired because Moslems believe that the prophet Mohamed would only say and do Allah's will.
