[history]
Monday, November 3, 2003
A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.
The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?
The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.
Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.
DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.
Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Are you familiar with this area? Do you know anything about this? Sounds like a stretch to me, but, wondering if you or anyone else has ever been to New Era and what they saw.

Thanks for your input. Wish I wasn't so far from New Era (I'm a little more than 100 miles from there). I'd go drive around there just to see what I could see. The guy who runs the Terrorist Watch web page certainly has an ego. Wish his supposed old photos (New Era OPS members) was working. Would love to see the 1998 photo of Bin Laden as "Ken Smith" and Al-Zwahiri as "Alan". I find it a little suspect that these photos are not up and running. Oh well, interesting and entertaining find on your part.

I would be shocked to learn that any of what is in that post is even remotely true. Actually I thought New Era was a bit east of the the Willamette. I'll have to look into this.

If you don't mind let me know what you find. If I lived closer to there (I'm a little more than 100 miles from there, about 30 miles north of Hood River) I would drive around New Era just to see what I could see. Sounds iffy, but you never know.

IMHO it is a prime target. UA Flight 93 may have been headed there, but some patriots brought that plane down.
When alQaeda decided to hit a target no matter how many time they try and fail they will always. always come back and hit it until they succeed.
WTC in 1993. They came back to finish the job in 2001.
White 5 House 5. Yep, I agree.

Arabic numerals are, by far, the most common form of symbolism used to represent numbers. The Arabic numeral system is a positional base 10 numeral system with 10 distinct glyphs representing the 10 digits. The leftward most digit of a number has the greatest value; this is the most logical arrangement if the number is read from right to left, which is how Arabic is read. However, for those accustomed to reading from left to right, it is less than ideal. In a more developed form, the Arabic numeral system also utilizes a decimal marker (usually a decimal point or a decimal comma) which separates the ones place from the tenths place, and is a symbol for "these digits repeat ad infinitum." In modern usage, this latter symbol is usually a vinculum. Historically, however, there has been much variation. In this more developed form, the Arabic numeral system can symbolize any rational number using only 12 glyphs. The Arabic numeral system has utilized many different sets of glyphs. These glyph sets can be divided into two main familiesnamely the West Arabic numerals, and the East Arabic numerals. East Arabic numeralswhich were developed primarily in what is now Iraqare shown in the picture below as "Arabic-Indic." "East Arabic-Indic" are a variety of East Arabic numerals. West Arabic numeralswhich were developed in Spain and the Maghrebare shown in the picture, labelled "European." Early varieties of West Arabic numerals often use the symbol "4" to represent the number five with some other symbol to represent five (often a loop), or had the glyph of the four digit rotated 0.5π radian clockwise.

Hey Calpernia. Thanks for both articles; I had no idea of this problem. If I recall correctly, the Newsday article found in the Afghanistan cave was dated some day in April of 2001. Would al qaeda know of the Hicksville matter based on the April 2001 date? From the articles, it doesn't state anything particular about early 2001.
Forgive me today; I am exhausted! What am I missing? Or is it that you recall coming across other media sources back when the media was reporting the cave finds and perhaps they were more descriptive in detailing what the article was about? Or do you have inside info that al qaeda was tracking this case?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1055960/posts "'Suspicious' Air France passenger a no-show -- again"
Straits Times ^
Posted on 01/11/2004 3:35:57 PM PST by DeaconBenjamin
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "PARIS - A passenger with a name similar to a suspected Al-Qaeda operative wanted by the United States failed to turn up for a flight from Paris to Los Angeles on Sunday for the second time in three weeks, airport officials said.
The passenger was booked on the Air France flight on Sunday as 'Abdul Haye', a name which bears a phonetic resemblance to that of a man who US law enforcement officials believe is linked to Al-Qaeda and spent time training in Afghanistan.
A passenger with a reservation in this name also failed to show up on Dec 24 for an Air France flight to Los Angeles, which was ultimately cancelled due to terror fears.
France cancelled the flight at the request of the US, which was concerned by the presence of certain names -- including that of 'Abdul Haye' -- on the passenger list.
On Jan 7, Paris airport officials and Air France had told French police that an Indian citizen called 'Abdul Haye' was expected to arrive in France on an Air France flight from Bombay.
The sources added that this passenger was a regular on the Bombay-Paris and Paris-Los Angeles flights and had a reservation made in this name on Sunday's 1.35pm (1235 GMT) flight to Los Angeles.
French police were waiting for 'Abdul Haye' at Charles de Gualle airport to check his identity and nationality and ask why he failed to appear for the flight on Dec 24.
But the man once again failed to appear for this flight or for the later departure at 8pm (1900 GMT)."

I give up. This thread moves way to fast and I can't even find anyone to give me an update. I'll keep searching around the muslim sites and if I find anything I'll drop it in here. This thread goes off in so many directions it's to hard to keep up if you're not here all day.

It strikes me as somewhat odd that the USG has lowered the "official" threat level to Yellow in "most" locations, yet there are many of us here talking about the worst of all possible outcomes (suitcase nukes, etc).
Where's the disconnect? If there were nukes on our soil, one would think we'd be at RED ++++! We'd be "battin' down the hatches" and fed agents would be doing door-to-door sweeps. At the very least, we'd see some real sense of urgency from GWB and those around him.
Instead, Dubya seems to be in "normal day-to-day" mode. He's talking about NASA & Mars. He's opening the borders further (shudder). IF he thought there's a risk of suitcase nukes going off on US soil, would he be doing ANY of this? I know that if I was President, I sure wouldn't be. We'd be at RED, agents would be scouring the cities and the countryside, and I'd start a MASSIVE export program for anyone who is an illegal. I sure as heck would not be welcoming MORE of them into the US. (Everything else aside, even GWB would have to realize he's going to look incredibly foolish if a nuke goes off and he's doing the amnesty thing. This alone makes me think we all here might be exaggerating the threat).
I've really struggled these past few weeks to discern alarmism from reality. While I respect AQ and no doubt think they are up to "something", I have a hard time reconciling the apparent lack of urgency that the Administration exhibits with some of the warnings we are all discussing here.
In short, it's exhausted me. I've stocked what I can on food and water, and am working on shelter plans. But I just can't shake the feeling that a lot of the sense of alarm is coming from one or two quarters (EOM posts among them). I also think we may be overreacting to a few "jihad" Photoshop exercises. ANY of us could do the same type of thing to a picture of Mecca if we wanted in about 10 minutes. So why are we so worried about these JPGs? I have yet to hear any compelling evidence that these are put togther by "real" terrorists. Given all of this, while I can figure out "EOM"'s motivation, I'm having a hard time figuring out why we are all (myself included) at RED+ here ourselves, and what is driving our concern.
Anyone else feel this way?
