[history]
Monday, November 3, 2003
A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.
The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?
The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.
Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.
DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.
Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

well, the logical place to hit first is Pakistan, the nuke would have come from there in one form or another.
but seriously, if the US government knew that AQ had nukes stashed inside the US, we would be at red alert. you would see the FBI making massive raids and roundups of sympathizers and those connected in the US for questioning, to determine the location of the devices. we wouldn't just be sitting around waiting for them to go off on 2/2.

(AUTOMATED TRANSLATION BEGINS HERE) By Allah above ( ( and also we made in all its criminals 's nobles village so that they deceive in it and what deceive is except souls and what feel ) ) the cattle ... And he said that was above ( ( and deceived and the God's plan and Allah the Best of Planners ( 54 ) ) ) the Imran's Family ... (END AUTOMATED TRANSLATION) I'm wondering about the reference to "the cattle".
There's a chapter in the Qu'ran entitled "The Cattle", that goes on at length about the fate of "the unbelievers" in the war against them by the Muslims

frankly, I worry more about the anthrax. easier to store and transport without detection, etc.
To: oceanview
Thanks..hope you are right. But I still wonder if they would worry more about the politics of Red vs. the practicality of it. (What if they don't believe the bad guys, and think they are bluffing? God help us if this is the case and the Admin is wrong).
Here's the link that scared the bajeebus out of me:
http://www.worldthreats.com/al-qaeda_terrosism/wmd_terror.htm Sure seems plausible to me that AQ has WMD, and that it would be a cakewalk to get them into the US. And, once here, I'm sure they want to use them.
The other thing that got me going today is the fact that Italy's main paper ran front page headlines on the "AQ threatens to nuke NYC by 2/2" story. As I told the wife..this is like the NYT of US running the same story. Not just something you get off of the 'net, but a "respected" news agency. Scary stuff when THESE types of outlets print stories like that.
Even with all this..the airplane angle STILL doesn't make sense in this context.

I don't know how to start a thread but wonder if we need a thread for tonite, sort of a citizen watch and report on anything going on. I feel jittery. Glad NY came and went in Rome, was worried about the Vatican.

Oceanview,
I have no clue - I hope you're right. Logic says you are. After all, terrorism is simply psyops. It's a mind game. If they scare us, they win points. They scare us badly enough and often enough, they win. I translated something this week that was pretty telling. It was the "Voice of Jihad" from last week, and in it it said something to the effect that we (the Americans) had been driven out of Saudi Arabia. The basis of this conclusion was the embassy sending home nonessential personnel and dependents, and providing them with free tickets. That was perceived as a sign of weakness. They scared us, we left. Ergo, they won.
But I am also concerned that the United States does not truly perceive the depth of the threats we are facing. Basically since the overthrow of the Shah of Iran, children through much of the middle east have been raised to hate the west in general, and America (the Great Satan) specifically, as an agent of Israel. You see this in the television shows the youngest kids watch. It's not as bad in countries like Jordan (largely likes to the influence of Queen Nour, who is an American) and in Egypt (again, President Mubarak's wife Suzanne is the daughter of a British woman), but it is endemic in the west bank, in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and in many of the Gulf states.
Many of these young people have been molded since infancy to think that the highest honor they can achieve is to strap a bomb belt on and blow themselves and a bunch of infidels (that means us) up.
This problem wasn't created overnight and it's not going to be solved overnight. And the governments that created and funded these TV shows are now being threatened by the Frankenstein monsters of their own creation.
Last night on Fox News, they interviewed a man who said that his friend in Saudi Arabia was afraid of his own children. He would walk into his teenaged daughter's room, and she'd turn on Britney Spears, then as soon as he'd leave she'd switch bad to jihad songs.
Just my thoughts.

the japanese had the same kind of loyalty in WWII, and we all know what it took to break them.

"The Cattle"
That section brought to mind the recent poster of the cow with Kaddaffi's face overlapped onto a metropolis (NY?)
Kaddaffi as sacrificial beast with a bloodbath oozing out of the urban center...given his new twist and open door policy to US and UN, this does seem dreadful.
Could Kaddaffi's reversal be an act to throw us off? I don't know which is worse.
Praying this is just more psych-ops.

Doctors warn of death toll from 'silent epidemic' of hepatitis C
By Jeremy Laurance Health Editor
01 January 2004
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Hospital specialists criticised the Government yesterday for failing to act to curb the spread of hepatitis C, a lethal blood-borne virus.
The silent epidemic of hepatitis C is officially estimated to have infected 200,000 people in the UK - four times as many as HIV - and more than 100 people are being infected each week.
It is already the main reason for liver transplants and is predicted to be killing more people than Aids by 2020, yet only a quarter of victims know they are infected and just 1 per cent are receiving treatment.
The seriousness of the threat was recognised by the Department of Health when it published a strategy for dealing with the epidemic 18 months ago and promised an action plan by the end of 2002. But a year later nothing has been done."

Oceanview - wasn't there a big roundup about a week back, of the bad guys in Los Angeles?
On cnn.com, there was a recap of this, and one of the agents said there was a "real sense of urgency..almost like they were trying to beat a ticking clock".
Also - someone posted (can't find it right now) that NEST was deployed to LA a week or so back.
Sounds to me that this is just what you said..they know there ARE nukes, and they are scrambling like mad to find/disable them.
GWB will NEVER goto Red (IMHO) due to impact on the economy. As much as I like the guy, he's still a politician - and will put politics FIRST AND FOREMOST.
Me..if I was Prez (will never happen, BUT)..I'd say "damn politics" and do what was RIGHT..including closing the damned borders, even if it took every technologist and scientist the US had to figure out a way.
Until the bad guys are prevented from living amongst us, we are at risk. Either they go, or we WILL be hit with WMD some day.

Fox News just reported that the Iraqi thugs, suicide bombers, terrorist, etc. has proclaimed Janurary 2nd through the 6th, 2004 to be Tthe Days for Explosions. Prayers needed for our troops, coalition troops, and the freedom desiring, peace longing Iraqi citizens.

Yes I saw that when it was originally posted in Arabic on the Global Islamic Media yahoogroup. It's a different document although parts of it are similar :) Thanks for pointing it out. As I said, my translation is very mediocre :) I am simply trying to help out :)

re post no 4817...
In my extensive cyber travels, the only 2 dates that really were highlighted on calendars, events, and announcements were:
February 2 and February 4, 2004.
Don't get me wrong...Fox News is the cutting edge for breaking and new news. I don't doubt their report(s) at all.
I'm just saying what I have seen in my cyber travels.

EmergencyNet News ^ | 12/31/2003 | Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI),
Posted on 12/31/2003 3:10:51 PM PST by Right_Handed_Writer
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: A new Al-Qaeda-style message has been posted on an Islamic website threatening imminent attacks on the United States, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), who translated the posting.
The Emergency Response and Research Institute (ERRI) has assessed the translation of the message and believes that despite the generic nature of the claims, it was likely to be authentic and from an Al-Qaeda operative...or someone knowledgeable in Islm and very sympathetic to the cause of the bin-Laden inspired network. However, according to ERRI, it appeared to be a general "call-to-arms" rather than an action message containing "go" signals for an impending attack.
The new threats were allegedly authored by Abu Abd Al-Rahman Al-Turkemani and originally appeared on the Global Islamic Media Site. Neither the identity of the author, nor veracity of the text has been verified by official intelligence or military sources."
