Just some thoughts: A dirty nuke would not necessarily cause instant massive death; would it? And yet, we get the advisements for Muslims to get out of the cities. A dirty nuke would make these cities uninhabitable, in the future. It seems to me that the 9-11 attacks were aimed more at our economic structure than killing people: the world trade centers and the airlines. The warning to get out and the economic target just don't seem to mix.

The USA has missing dirty nuke material. In fact, there are many countries where this waste is and it's not tracked accurately enough. Fortunately, the most dangerous stuff is tracked pretty well. This means that a dirty nuke might be lower grade material due to easier access and the damage wouldn't be nearly as bad.

None of it is good of course, but a barely radioactive bomb is much more desirable in a worse case scenario than something else that's really radioactive.

First of all, I have no idea. I'm not planning on getting out of Los Angeles on the basis of what I know right now. I'm not going to jump at every squawk by a terrorist, and most here would survive a nuke, as horrific as that would be. Heck, I've got duct tape and plastic wrap.

I'm perplexed by the fact that we haven't found (or announced finding) any of Saddam's WMDs, which I still believed he posessed. How likely is it that Al Qaeda had weapons here, while Saddam didn't? Yet Afghanistan and Iraq fell quickly, with no attacks here? At least part of that, I believe, is due to good work by Aschcroft and the Justice Department.

Still, someone hit us with anthrax, and all signs point to Saddam and/or al Qaeda. Why no second punch?

Also, we're getting numerous reports of terrorist chatter, an increase of terrorist activity in Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and there's this danged double eclipse Ramadan. The Ramadan thing gives me pause, because there's no "wait until next year" for any Mahdi-jihadis currently alive, or for any of their children. Now or never for them.

Dunno! I see it more as symbolism possibly relating to the phases of the moon. With the rarity of the lunar and solar eclipses during this rama-dama-ding-dong thingy it tends to make the rays more able to penetrate even the thickest tin foil headgear.

What really bothers me is the pic with the scuba diver. That is so odd compared to the usual OBL propaganda pics. Maybe there really is something to the earlier reports of scuba attacks; or maybe AQ or some nut is just picking up on this stuff and floating it around to see how folks react to it.

Since it isn't the lead story on the alphabet channels this doesn't yet qualify as a potential terrorist threat. After something happens it'll be all over the headlines that the "dots were not connected."

I agree, a dirty bomb or chemical attack would require you to be out of the neighborhood. A small nuke or a really nasty bioweapon would require vacating the city proper. Then again, if you specify a neighborhood you are giving away too much information about the nature and location of the attack.

I am not losing any sleep over all of this, but I am staying alert to it.

Assume all of these "coincidences" concerning eclipses, scripture, etc... were not about to happen - do you think Al-Queda would not still pull the trigger?

This is akin to astrology. If they want to hit us, they will do it the first chance they have - although subhuman, they are not dumb enough to wait for celestial activities to light up a city - they'll do it the first chance they get.

Yes; you are right. However, what do you suppose people would do if a dirty nuke went off in NYC? It would be chaos for months, with folks killing each other to get away, and the economy of NYC would go straight into the toilet. I bet it would take years to get back to normal.

Anything is possible when dealing with terrorist thugs who live everyday drooling over how they can kill others. I would take precautions and be watchful as I have done since just before 911. Remember the threat this past 4th of July where Arabic messages warned of an impending attack on the east coast and told people to vacate? Nothing came to pass; or perhaps the Feds thwarted something.

Since we cannot ever know for sure, we must simply remain cautious and forewarned, knowing that the terrorists simply hate us. To fall into a lull again as before 911 would be irresponsible. If usama's heart still beats, his next attack will be nothing short of spectactular.

Just got in and saw your inquiry. No he wasn't there this morning either. Don't know what to make of it. Either he's taking off for Ramadan or maybe relocated to another corner or... he's heeding the warning on that website. There are lots of middle eastern street vendors in the city. This guy stands out because he's very old world looking. Sort of looks like a cleric - the white gown, the beard slightly curled up at the end, the hat. He does have good quality fruit though.

Sounds like his cell was activated and he now has another job to work.

The Coding of an Attack

    Prior to previous and significant terrorist attacks, a "coded message" was posted on an Arabic forum. This message cryptically referred to a series of numbers and in particular, "Four-four" or "4 4." The following is an incomplete listing of forum messages, supplemented by information concerning the consequential or "planned" attacks believed to be referenced by the "4 4" message.The resurrection of the "4 4" message and references thereto are being noted in Islamic Jihad messages. The following is a compilation of messages, with notations made by analysts. The information is being analyzed for consideration in the possible attacks in the US during Ramadan 2003. Analysts note: although there are three locations of interest- New York, Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA, analysts are considering the following scenario:

An initial "blast from the sea" may strike the east coast of New York, possibly in a harbor and/or near the New York-New Jersey border. The nature of this blast will most likely be radiological in nature. Following this blast, it is expected that some type of communication by terrorists will be attempted with US leaders. Failing that, a rapid succession of blasts could occur at the "remaining" locations. For those readers keeping count, this would account for only three (3) attacked cities or sites. Analysts are split between a "fourth" blast in tandem with the third (i.e. Los Angeles AND the Silicone Valley area of California) ---or a "fourth blast elsewhere in the US, possibly at a United States landmark. Considering the latter, analysts have noted an obvious interest with Yellowstone National Park, which is the site of active earth-seismic activity. The following cryptic messages have been used to consider the various possible scenarios:

The string of attacks occurred in quick succession; the fourth explosion occurred early Tuesday morning outside the headquarters of a joint U.S.-Saudi owned company in the Saudi capital.

And it exploded on land in Morroco 4 4..!  (Referring to four blasts that hit Casablanca, Morocco within 30 minutes of each other on Friday, 16 May 2003, killing approximately 40 people and injuring at least 100 more. Four targets were the Hotel Safir, a Jewish community center, a Spanish restaurant and the Belgian consulate. Morocco's Interior Minister Mustapha Sahel said there were similarities between the bombings in Casablanca and Riyadh.
