Word For The Day, Tuesday, October 14, 2003
The Verbivores | 10/14/03 | Teacher

Posted on 10/14/2003 5:34:59 AM PDT by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

conniption \con*nip*shun\, noun:

1. A fit of violent emotion, such as anger or panic. Also called conniption fit.

One can but hope that the trend in California sweeps the nation and we see a decisive victory in the 2004 elections. With that, it is a fervent desire that we see the DNC rolling in a conniption fit the likes of which we have never seen before. Besides being somewhat triumphant, it would be purely amusing. --RikaStrom – WFTD Teacher.

That's what we tried last night but the extractor bit never caught and eventually just pulled the cap off the screw. And that was going slowly with the drill. By hand we were getting no where, just shaving filings. This reminds me of the time a bulb broke off in the base of an outdoor light fixture and everyone said just use a potato. That didn't work either and I ended up pulling it out bit by bit with the needle nosers.

It's the railing that attaches to the staircase bannister. I can send you a pic. The spindles are in the way of securing the one from the wall to the one coming up that stairs. They meet at a 90 degree angle where the staircase divides, at the landing.

That, plus the extras - land costs have to be figured in too....... but basically you can go by sq. ft......

We live in Bucks County - which is a very expensive area around here.......very historic.......... a company that builds nationwide, I think, has the exact same homes here and in York County where we are moving......

same house:

Bucks County $420,000

York County $280,000

Oh, no....this is the point at which my hubby would have run out of foul language to scream and brought the entire staircase and loft down with a blast of C-4.....

No kidding. One day last spring we got 30" of snow in 16 hours. Two days later, it was in the sixties.

Here you pretty much decide what area you want to live in and how many 100s of Ks you are willing to spend for what you want. unless you go out to the boondocks, you will be buying a house on a lot from a builder. you can customize it how you want for $$$, but as far as buying a piece of land and building, you would have to go out pretty far, bc the builders buy up all the available land. they specialize in finding some old farms etc. and subdividing.

If you could not drill a pilot hole deep enough, what i generally do is use a long finish nail (3, 3.5"), (Because you can use a nail set) to get away from the obstruction, then pull the nail out, and proceed to screw to your hearts desire.

By sq ft is the most accurate and easiest way to figure the cost. You add up all your materials and labor for the house, divide that by the sq ft of living space, which gives you the price per sq ft, then you do the same for the garage (garage, even if attached is figured separately from the house).

And as far as aesthetics, that part is going to require some cosmetic woodworking. My plan is to saw out a rectangular block, attach the bannisters and then replace the block with lots of glue.
