Maine Poll: Jackson Widens Lead Over Sen. Collins

Democrat Troy Jackson leads Republican Sen. Susan Collins by 5 percentage points in the final YouGov poll before Tuesday's midterm elections as Democrats seek to flip one of the nation's most closely watched Senate seats.

The survey, conducted Oct. 26-29 among 1,503 likely voters, showed Jackson leading Collins 52% to 47%.

That marks a shift from YouGov's previous Oct. 1 survey, which showed the candidates tied at 50%.

The latest survey shows Jackson improving his position compared with YouGov's earlier October poll.

Recent polling underscores just how close the contest has been.

A CNN/SSRS survey showed Jackson leading Collins 49% to 45%, while a Marist poll found a narrower 49% to 47% lead.

A Data for Progress survey showed Jackson leading 50% to 45%, while an earlier Beacon Research/Shaw poll found the candidates deadlocked at 49%.

A Trafalgar poll even gave Collins a fractional advantage.

The varying poll results underscore the competitive nature of the race as Collins, a five-term incumbent, seeks another six-year term

The larger political picture may be increasingly encouraging for Democrats.

IIRC, Collins was down by 8 in one poll just before the election in 2020 and won by 9. Poll was off 17 points.

As a Mainer, I get peppered by pollsters but refuse to participate. Must of my like-minded folks don’t either. That’s why Collins mopped the deck last time, and I hope so this time too. Anyone that would vote for Jackson is an utter moron, but we have plenty of them, especially in southern Maine.

Yougov is not not a randomly generated poll. Anybody can sign up.

They poll by text message (and probably other ways)....my son received two requests to participate in a Texas poll (and in Texas you don’t register by party) and as he just turned 20 he has only voted in one general election so they have no idea which party he aligns with. He never responded to either request. Republicans in general do not respond to pollsters.
