Trump Uses Wartime Powers to Revive Long-Stalled Pipeline to Be Used By 'Tens of Millions of Americans'

President Donald Trump’s administration is putting up to $42 million in federal funding behind a natural gas pipeline that New York helped derail years ago, invoking national defense powers to revive the project as the White House pushes to lower energy costs across the Northeast.

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced Oct. 19 that the funding would advance the proposed 125-mile Constitution Pipeline, which would transport natural gas from Pennsylvania to New York.

The money would come through the Defense Production Act (DPA), a federal law granting the president authorities to strengthen industrial capabilities deemed essential to national defense.

“This is an outstanding use of the Defense Production Act — in fact it needs to be expanded, not only to the pipeline, but also to ALL Refineries in the United States,” energy analyst Stuart Turley told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Turley argued that increasing refining capacity could help lower gasoline and diesel prices without forcing consumers to reduce demand.

The project could lower electricity and home heating costs while reducing the risk of blackouts during periods of peak demand, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in the announcement.

“Despite America having an abundant supply of low-cost natural gas, tens of millions of Americans have limited access to this reliable energy source due to a lack of pipeline infrastructure,” Wright said.

Dems care about energy cost so they will probably try and stop this pipeline.

My question is: “which administration wrote,, voted, and passed this act?’

It would be a hoot if this was the brain child of The Democrats would it not?

The US maintains the SPR. Maybe its time the US builds state of the art, high production refineries and then contract out the operations.

It’s evident the oil producers are not willing to invest in these facilities due to uncertainty with government regulations/policies wanting to rid the country of a petroleum based economy.

Just my opinion.

Sounds like a blue state problem - Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Let them pay for it. (or reject it again)

President Trump probably noticed that he carried PA in 2024.

Lol.

True, but the governors have been Democrats since 2015.

President Harry S. Truman signed the “Defense Production Act” into law on September 8, 1950.

Congress passed the act at the start of the Korean War to give the executive branch broad emergency powers to control industrial production, prioritize critical resources, and manage the economy for national defense.

The law was modeled on the World War II-era War Powers Acts of 1941 and 1942, which were used under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

to ALL Refineries

So the US is going to nationalize it's energy infrastructure now, like Venezuela did?

I asked Gemini: Who rejected the 125-mile Constitution Pipeline" and here was the response:

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) originally rejected the critical water quality permit for the 125-mile Constitution Pipeline in April 2016. This decision, heavily backed by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, effectively blocked the project because the pipeline could not be built without the state-level Section 401 Clean Water Act certification.

The rejection was subsequently upheld by the following entities during the ensuing legal battles:

• The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit: Upheld New York's denial in 2017 and formally terminated further legal proceedings in 2021.

• The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC): Initially backed New York's authority by denying a 2018 petition from the developers that attempted to overturn the state's decision. (Note: FERC later reversed its stance on the state's waiver timeline in 2019 following separate federal case precedents, but the developers ultimately canceled the project in 2020 due to diminished financial returns).

This should have been done before early voting started in NY State, hopefully the word gets out or Hochul makes a stink about it.

Connecticut and several other East Coast states have a large number of heating oil companies and I’m sure they have a strong lobby.

If dems passed the initial act it would have been for the benefit of one of their so called 'communities'... NOT for all Americans. Democrats HATE anyone outside their bubble. Trump used it to benefit all of us... NOT just the sexual weirdo community or the commie community or the TDS community. YOU know the difference, right?

I sure do, brother, and yet, like some other things, I posited the possibility that this act was like another one years back, that boomeranged on the Dems, since 47 has a habit of finding those sort of things.

I am not a bedwetter liberal.
I am somewhere between Birch, Libertarian and Reagan/Rush.
I am a Viet/Cold War vet, so one less Commie orr two laid at the base of The Tree of ZLiberty makes the nation improved.
