Florida Democratic US Senate nominee Angie Nixon is staunchly against taxes assessed against her. She reasons "I've been a member of the Florida House of Representatives since 2020. That makes me a member of the government. It's the taxpayers' obligation to pay me. I shouldn't have to give any of that money I get back to the treasury. That makes no sense."
She admitted "I have other jobs, but I'm no billionaire. The $270,000 in income I had to report as a political candidate doesn't mean I should have to pay taxes on it. Sen. Bernie Sanders used to complain about millionaires. Now he is a millionaire. He flies around the country on private jets all paid for by someone else. I hope to do that too when I'm a US senator. Most of the members of the US Senate are millionaires and they all get loads of freebies from the taxpayers. It's what they're owed as public servants. I want my share."
"And another thing, I'm still getting dunned for my unpaid $17,000 student loan," she complained. "I already wrote to the student loan folks and told them 'I don't wanna pay it back. Education supposed to be free.' They can't kick me out of the Senate if I don't pay because the laws that normal folks have to obey don't apply to members of Congress. That's the way members of Congress write the laws."
"As a Democratic Socialist I believe that the nation's wealth should be distributed based on need," she asserted. "The folks that have more than they need should have their wealth seized by the government because the government knows best how to share that wealth for the good of everybody. Making all the decisions needed to figure out how to split up the wealth is hard work. Those who have to do this hard work should be paid a fair share, which should take into account how difficult these decisions are. So, naturally, the members of the government will have to get a larger than average share of the wealth. This has always been the way wherever socialism has ruled. The proof that this is good is that more than 99% of the ballots cast in socialist countries support the Party's candidates. It was that way in the Soviet Union. It is that way in Cuba today."
