🚨 The New York Post just named the group Silicon Valley wants in charge of AI.
It is not Congress. It is not voters. It is a far-left Effective Altruism outfit called METR.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says these people should get employee-like access to the most powerful models on Earth. The problem is they are not independent. The roster includes his old housemate, that housemate’s wife, and staff funded by the same Democratic megadonors already invested in Anthropic.
That is not a watchdog. That is the same circle grading its own homework.
If a bank hired its own friends as auditors, the government would shut it down. When it is AI, they want America to clap. We should not.

I’ve said that instead of slowing or stopping AI development is a bad idea, if anything we need to rapidly speed up the development of AI.
The side effects of slowing or stopping AI development is twofold, first it allows the Chinese to catch up, and it will allow extreme liberals to somehow get control of AI and use to further their agenda, which in many cases is aligned with the Chinese.
This is a very similar issue to the 1970s when Nuclear Energy was demonized by people like Ralph Nader and other leftwing activists, they created a hysteria that nuclear power was dangerous and would kill everybody.
Fast forward 50 years, think about how much better it would be if we had another 75-100 nuclear reactors producing cheap reliable clean energy.

The usual story. Regulation crowds out small competition. Regulation of drugs in America has become so awful it takes over a billion dollars to bring a new drug to market! No little guy is going to muscle his way into that business! The big AI guys now want to play the same game to play out with AI.
