What actually happened in the Clancy case that triggered this?
Clancy, 36, was on trial for murdering her three young children, ages 5, 3, and 8 months, at the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023. Her defense argued she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time and should not be held criminally responsible.
After roughly 38 hours of deliberation spread across seven days, the jury deadlocked 11 to 1 toward a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict, and Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4 after a Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court justice declined to intervene. Clancy remains held at a state hospital, where she has been since her arrest, and a status hearing is scheduled for September 29 while prosecutors decide whether to pursue a retrial or a plea agreement.
Why did this specific case spark calls about women’s voting rights?
Largely because of who made up the majority on the jury and who showed up to support Clancy publicly. Hundreds of mostly female demonstrators gathered outside the Plymouth courthouse throughout the trial, arguing the case reflected a broader lack of understanding about postpartum depression and psychosis.

I’ve never heard anyone in the real world talk about this, but in the world of Free Republic, it comes up a lot.
If we don’t repeal the 19th the western world is doomed, sooner or later.

I think I read calls to repeal the 19th Amendment 10 times in a day. Out of boredom I stopped reading FR that day.
Sounds like another Harebrained RAT political trap for the election.
I’d like to point out that repealing the 19th, which will never happen, would actually accomplish nothing. The 19th prohibits the denial of voting rights based on sex. Most states in 1920 had already granted the right to vote to women and I can’t imagine any state legislature voting to deny women the right to vote today.
And yes repeal of the 16th sounds nice but repeal of the 17th sounds nicer to me.
The only way women will lose the right to vote is a Muslim takeover.

Ok, “we” in this case = 2/3 of each House of Congress and 3/4 of the States. AND, when XIX was ratified, 20 States already allowed women to vote.
So, if you are correct that unless XIX is somehow repealed, we are doomed - might as well kiss your ass goodbye now.
