Security is always the top priority in the world of airlines and airports.
The events of September 11, 2001, led to even tighter airport security. Until now, only passengers holding valid boarding passes for the day of travel have had access to post-security areas of the airport.
Thanks to Gateside by TSA PreCheck, a new TSA initiative, 13 U.S. airports have relaxed those strict rules.
Let’s take a look at the details of this major development.
n a nutshell, Gateside by TSA PreCheck is a new complimentary benefit of TSA PreCheck membership that grants members access to the secure post-security (airside) part of airport terminals even when they’re not catching a flight.
As per the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s website, the new gateside access is designed specifically for those wishing to greet loved ones the second they step off the plane — or even just spend time with someone during a long layover.....
For now, Gatseside TSA PreCheck is in its pilot phase and is only available in the following 13 airports, which include small regional airports and important international gateways:

Been wondering about the TSA screening crap.
They only want an ID. No boarding pass to get to the scanning line.
Does your precheck and flight info come up on the TSA screen when you have your ID checked?
This is BS.
The TSA should be abolished and all people should be allowed access to the gates after going through security. This whole attitude of classifying Us citizens as more safe because of paid access is BS
Some airports already had “guest” passes. Apply online.
The system was made a joke when the Biden Administration had all those illegals flown around without scanning, vetting or even documentation.
Yet not one hijacked or blew up an aircraft. Hmmm.
TSA Precheck thru Global Entry involves an interview with TSA, an extensive background check and fingerprints.
Minimum of 3 months to get it setup.
Good worldwide and needs to be renewed every 10 years.

Ah, TSA, security theater at its best and a jobs program for those too thick to work at the DMV.
Airport security has been a laugh since 2010. The FTA/etc run checks regularly; e.g;, fake bombs in luggage. All airports fail 90% of time. Yeah, they find a fake bomb on 1 out of 10 tries.
It's not just about paying a fee...you must pass a background check as well.
It isn’t such a big deal anymore with so much international travel now touchless but if you have a travel credit cards that provides reimbursement as a perk there really is no downside.
TSA runs the security at airports, so if you abolish it, there's no security. And if your answer is "well, just have some other government group do it", then all you've really done is changed the name.

Eh...I just signed up for TSA Pre-Check today because I travel a lot for work. The advantage -- to everyone -- is that the TSA Pre-Check for some shortens the security lines for everyone else. It isn't just the fact that you were willing to pay the $80 for five years. It's also that you've passed a heightened security check, have agreed to biometric identification, etc..
If you want to force everyone to go through the exact same security, you've just made the lines longer and increased your own wait times. How does that benefit you?

Global Entry is now $120. Qualifying credit cards reimburse that amount. TSA Pre is $76.75.
The whole thing about having to show your ID started before the TSA came into existence after 9/11/01; the airlines instituted this to stop passengers from using black market or “scalped” discount air tickets. The luggage searches started in the late 1960s after a rash of hijackings when nutjobs commandeered airplanes in flight and made them fly to locales like Havana. I vividly remember my dad’s suitcase being opened and hand searched by a security guard at the airport in Muskegon, Michigan when he was leaving for a business trip.
I now have “Touchless Pre-Check”, meaning that Delta gave the TSA my biometric details and ticket information, and I no longer have to give TSA my ID at a designated line; they take my picture and allow me to enter the magnetometer/ luggage search line. I had been a member of CLEAR, but CLEAR is inferior to the new “Touchless”. I realize I have given up my privacy; however, if you want to travel by air, you are stuck with the “security theater” that goes on in today’s airports.
As far as being able to go airside without a ticket, this was the case until 9/11. Pittsburgh actually rebuilt their passenger terminal into an airside shopping mall in the mid-1990s, and was popular with locals; when 9/11 happened, locals without an air ticket could no longer visit the shopping mall. The merchants who rented space out there got badly hurt, particularly after US Air “dehubbed” PIT and eliminated over 80% of their flights there.

IMHO it’s a financial shakedown by the TSA. Pay us extra or we’ll give you extra “security”.

When will they stop allowing drunken people to board planes, and stop feeding them even more drinks on the plane......until they inevitably go berserk.
Albuquerque was finishing that last year when I last flew, a food court inside security with only a single coffee stand and gift shop outside and unlike Love in Dallas, for example, no one changes planes in ABQ.
